Travellers strip naked for free Aer Lingus tickets
Aer Lingus yesterday invited travellers to strip naked in London. The Irish airline staged the stunt to promote its new routes from Gatwick.

Aer Lingus had hoped for a thousand people to take part in the St Patrick's Day event, reports The Telegraph. However, only around 400 turned up to strip in return for two free flights each.

Participants gathered in London's Jubilee Gardens and used "strategically placed shamrocks...to protect their modesty". They then marched along the towpath of the river Thames past the London Eye.

Prior to the gathering, police had said that anyone stripping completely naked would be issued with a fine. However, the warning did not deter some people: "Once out of sight of the cautious police, many of the participants ignored police warnings and stripped off for the bewildered, but eager, onlooking crowds," said an Aer Lingus spokesman.

The Irish carrier is launching eight new routes from Gatwick in April. It said it will be reducing fares by 10 per cent this year to try and encourage people to keep flying during the economic downturn.
