Pets only airline to launch in America
Pets only airline to launch in America
A pets only airline is launching in the US. Pet Airways will fly animals in the main cabin from $150 per flight under the supervision of 'Pet Attendants'.

Pet Airways will launch in May, according to The Washington Post. Flights will initially run between Los Angeles and America's East Coast, with stops in Denver and Colorado.

"With Pet Airways your pet will be safe and comfortable, flying in the main cabin, not in cargo," owners are reassured on the airline's website. "From check in at our Pet Lounge and throughout the flight, our Pet Attendants will be caring and catering to all your pet's needs. You can even monitor how your pet is doing."

The unique carrier will start operating with a fleet of 20 aircraft, ranging from twin propeller planes to Boeing 727s. However, only pets will be able to fly - owners won't even be allowed in the cargo area, jokes The Times.

At present, no flights are permitted into the UK carrying pets in the main passenger cabin, with the exception of guide dogs for the blind. This rule applies to both private and commercial flights. Some specialist companies do exist to transport pets, but animals must still go in the hold. Until the rules change, owners taking pet friendly holidays overseas will need to put their animals in the cargo area.

Spanish pets will, nevertheless, soon be allowed to travel in the cabin. From July, the country's low cost airline, Clickair, will become the first European carrier to allow pets in the cabin on both domestic and international flights. Animals weighing no more than 17lb "may travel in a suitable crate at the feet of their owners", Clickair explains.
