A couple whose easyJet flight was cancelled threatened to send in bailiffs to recover travel expenses from the low-cost airline. Tracy and Shane Booth drove 1,000 miles home after their return flight in Austria was cancelled.


The Booths, along with their two teenage sons, were due to return home after a 10-day skiing holiday in Austria when their flight to Gatwick was cancelled 15 minutes before departure, reports The Daily Mail.

easyJet told the family, from Exmouth in Devon, that the next available flight was in four days, but offered to pay their travel expenses when they decided to drive.

The Booths sent a claim for £1,900 to easyJet following their 18-hour car journey home through Germany and France, but never received the money. As a result, the Booths took easyJet to court, where a judge ruled in their favour.

They were awarded £2,280, but still did not receive the money. "The only thing we can do now to get the money back is to send in the bailiffs," said Mrs Booth.

However, following the threat of bailiffs, easyJet has promised the Booths will be reimbursed as soon as possible.

"easyJet would like to apologise for the delay in Ms Booth receiving her payment, there seems to have been a failure when processing it," said a spokesman for the carrier.
