Extreme Scrabble as popular word game turns 60

Scrabble fans have been taking the word game to a new level. Celebrating its 60th anniversary, games of Scrabble have been played in extreme locations the world over.
Enthusiasts set up their Scrabble boards in the
African savannah alongside lions, with
alligators in a
Florida swamp and with sharks in the
Bahamas, reports The Telegraph.
Lion keepers Kevin Richard and Helga van der Merwe set up their Scrabble board in the
lion park in Lanseria,
South Africa.
"Obviously I wouldn't advise just anyone to start up a game in a lion park, but we are so comfortable with these animals that they accept us into part of the group," said Richard.
Just as at ease in unusual
Scrabble playing territory was Tim Williams, owner of Florida's Gatorland Theme Park. "We even put the board on an alligator's back," he said. Meanwhile, two scuba divers tested their nerves while playing surrounded by
Caribbean reef
sharks in the Bahamas.
In another unique game of Scrabble, two
skydivers built a reinforced board and glued their letters to it while in freefall. Elsewhere, two climbers played the word game on a near vertical rock face on
Anglesey.
Not to be outdone, some hikers enjoyed a game in
sub zero temperatures, 9,000ft above sea level on Nuns Veil Peak,
New Zealand.
