Australia's 'best job in the world': final candidates revealed
The 50 shortlisted applicants for Australia's 'best job in the world' have been announced. The final candidates after the reef job in Australia, come from 22 countries and include four applicants from the United Kingdom.

Tourism Queensland received 34,684 applications for the Hamilton Island job. The successful applicant for Australia's island job will spend six months in a 'caretaker' role, based on Hamilton Island in the Whitsundays.

The top 50 entrants will now be narrowed down to a final 11. 10 of the applicants will be chosen by Tourism Queensland, while the eleventh 'wild card' candidate will be chosen by popular vote. The potential employees will then fly to Hamilton Island in early May to take part in the final selection process. The successful candidate will be announced on May 6 and commence work on July 1.

Accommodation on Hamilton Island will be included for the new employee, who will earn AU$150,000 for their six month contract. The work will include exploring the Great Barrier Reef and creating blogs, video updates and photo diaries of their time in the Whitsunday Islands.

The Great Barrier Reef stretches for more than 1,243 miles along the coast of Queensland. The reef comprises over 600 islands and 2,900 individual reefs, which visitors can explore by diving, sailing and snorkelling.
