XL Airways in administration - advice for affected passengers
XL Airways has gone into administration and all flights have been cancelled. XL Airways passengers who are currently abroad and who booked through xl.com or through XL call centres are being advised on who to call regarding arrangements for their return journey.

Passengers currently abroad who booked with XL Airways via their website or call centres are not ATOL protected and as a result will not be able to claim a refund from ATOL in respect of their flights. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) will be able to make arrangements for return flights, but passengers will be invoiced upon return, the XL Leisure Group advises.

Passengers should also check their travel insurance policy as this may include cover for airline failure. Anyone who booked flights with a credit card or VISA debit card may also be protected. Passengers should check with their card issuer for further details of a possible refund.

Alternatively, XL passengers can make their own arrangements for return travel. In this case passengers should retain their receipts and send them to Kroll Limited, Wellington Plaza, 31 Wellington Street, Leeds, LS1 4DL.

Alternative airlines include First Choice (0871 200 7799), Thomas Cook (0870 750 0119) and Thomson (0871 231 5938).

Further information can be obtained from the ATOL website or the Administrator's helpline:
  • From the UK - 0800 068 8991
  • From abroad - +44 208 242 4783
Customers who have booked flights with XL Airways but have yet to travel have been advised that all flights have been cancelled and will not be rescheduled.
