Ryanair removes check-in desks
Ryanair has removed its check-in desks from airports. From today, passengers will have to check-in online.

The online only check-in policy has applied to bookings made since May, but today's move marks the end of the transition period. Passengers will need to check-in on Ryanair's website at least four hours before their flight. Luggage can still be checked-in at the airport using Ryanair's bag drop desks.

Registering for flights online will cost £5 per journey. If travellers forget to bring their boarding card to the airport, they will need to pay £40 for a replacement.

Ryanair has countered complaints that the new system is unfair, saying passengers can book promotional fares and save money that way. The airline's chief executive, Michael O'Leary, said that the money saved by removing check-in desks will help Ryanair to maintain its low fares for passengers.
