Free surf lessons as Jet2.com launches Leeds-Newquay flights

Jet2.com has begun flights between Newquay and Leeds. The low cost airline celebrated the launch of its new route by giving passengers surf lessons at check in.

Jet2.com's new route means that holidaymakers from the north of England now have a new travel option when renting Cornwall cottages. The route will run twice weekly until June 28, with an extra per service per week thereafter.

"Newquay has always been a favourite UK destination," said Philip Meeson, Jet2.com's chief executive. "Now [it's] incredibly easy to get to for people in the north, with flights taking just 70 minutes, departing three times weekly during summer."

The route's inaugural flight was marked by passengers in Leeds receiving free surf lessons. Led by a local surf expert, the lessons took place in the airport's check in hall and taught passengers basic moves as well as some commonly used surfing terms.

"The surf lessons and language added plenty of pre holiday fun for the passengers and we hope they'll try out their new skills once in Newquay," Meeson added. "But if they don't, there is plenty to do that doesn't mean getting wet!"

Seats on Jet2.com's Leeds-Newquay flights cost from £19.99 one way. This includes taxes.
