Chalet Description
Our chalet was completed in January 2008.It has the look of the old traditional chalets in the village but was built to a very high specification with luxury fittings and has the benefit of modern building methods including the use of geothermal (environmentally friendly) under floor heating.
The chalet is built on a fairly flat plot with 2 floors and a mezzanine. It is “upside down” with the entrance at the rear at the upper level. This gives the living area a feeling of space with the high roof and maximises the fantastic views of the valley all around the chalet.
View from terrace looking south.

The Swiss Alps / Valais/Swiss Alps region
Zinal and Val d`anniviers.
The Val d`anniviers is a valley which runs in a north/south direction. It is accessed from the main Rhone Valley from the town of Sierre. To the north of Sierre is Crans Montana. To the east of the Val d`anniviers is a valley in which Zermatt is situated and to the west is the 4 valleys area of Verbier.
The Val d`anniviers comprises of 5 resorts: Zinal,Grimentz,St Luc,Chandolin and Vercorin. All resorts are covered by the same lift pass which also gives free access to the bus linking them. The lift pass is good value at 230chf for 6 days with discounts for families, children, seniors and students.
Zinal has over 70 km of pistes and it is possible to ski off-piste to Grimentz where there is a similar amount of pistes. St Luc and Chandolin are on the opposite side of the valley facing south-west giving a total of pisted runs to 225 kms
Zinal is located at the end of the Anniviers valley is French speaking and it sits at the gateway to the Imperial Crown. These are four permanently snow covered 4000m plus mountains with the Matterhorn behind. Zinal at 1670m is a real old fashioned village with traditional “chocolate box” wooden chalets.
Zinal area
Skiing
Zinal and the other areas in the valley offer superb skiing for all levels of ski ability. The resort is extremely family friendly and is an excellent place to learn to ski or snowboard.
For more advanced skiers and boarders there are plenty of blues, reds and not too challenging blacks. It is an excellent place to refine your piste technique and to start exploring off-piste skiing. Many of the lower runs have snow making machines to top up the natural snow. One of the advantages of this area is that even in peak times the resort does not get too busy, unlike some of the neighbouring more famous resorts, and consequently lift queues are small.
This area is fantastic for the advanced skiers/boarders. Zinal and Grimentz have large amounts of off-piste skiing close to the pistes and because the resort is quiet it doesn’t get tracked out so quickly. Zinal has a designated freeride area reserved for suitably equipped skiers/boarders (tranceivers, probes, shovels etc.) Further from the pistes there is limitless off-piste and ski touring potential. The area is massive with numerous high mountains and there are a number of high mountain huts to overnight in. This type of skiing is best undertaken with a qualified mountain guide. There is a mountain guide office in the village.
Cross country skiing is available with 19km of tracks in Zinal and 29km of tracks in Grimentz. Also snow shoeing is very popular in the valley with more routes than any other area in Switzerland. Nearby resorts include Crans Montana and Verbier which are less than an hours drive. Other winter activities include mountaineering and paragliding which is very popular.
Ski School / Mountain Guiding
(Ecole Suisse de Ski) and kindergarten for young children. There is a Bureaux de Guide office offering expert mountain guide services.
Ski & Boot rental
There are 3 sports shops offering high quality equipment
Summer in Zinal
Zinal is a charming mountain village in a breathtakingly beautiful spot and unlike many other ski areas is just if not more attractive in the summer. The village is almost as busy in the summer and it still has a buzz to it.
Walking is a popular activity with anything from short walks along the river to walks into the high mountains amongst the glaciers. Overnight stays are available in the various high mountain huts. Some of the walks are as spectacular as anywhere in the Alps.
Mountain biking is also popular in the Summer with many mountain bike trails available and the main ski lift is open in the summer to assist with the assent.
Canyoning is available nearby. Tennis is available in the village and excellent golf is available at Crans sur Sierre the home of the Omega European Masters which is less than 1 hour away.
Vercorin has the largest ariel adventure park in Switzerland with 4 zip wires over 100m long plus ariel adventure courses suspended through the trees. There are different courses for different ages/abilities. (www.foretaventure.ch) The valley also has a 190m bungy jump from the highest suspended bridge in Europe. See www.bungy.ch for details.
Zinal offers everything you could want from an alpine resort. There are 9 restaurants 2 supermarkets and a boulangerie
Other amenities in Zinal include a swimming pool and ice rink. Prices are much cheaper than the neighbouring resorts.
How to get there
Zinal is approximately 2 hours driving from Geneva. Alternatively take the train (the station is in the airport) to Sierre and then the bus to Zinal (1 change in Vissoie) The bus times are linked to the train times and this route takes around 3 hours. www.sbb/en for info. Zinal is about 570 miles from Calais and takes about eight and a half hours.
