  • Suitable for children over 5

The Chez Nous apartments (Mischabel and Le Petit) are in a building called Haus Maoli that is just a 5 minute walk from the centre of Zermatt and both apartments have stunning views straight out on to the majestic Matterhorn.

The Mischabel is a split level apartment on the second floor that can sleep 6 people. However the master bedroom can also be arranged as a family room (the sitting area has a day bed that converts in to a full sized double bed) which means it could sleep 8 people.

The apartment is fully equipped with all the essentials including wifi, a coffee machine, hairdryers and packs of cards and a home made cake will be there to greet you when you arrive. The large open-plan kitchen/living-room leads on to a full-width, south-facing balcony looking directly at the Matterhorn and also has a 55" home cinema system (complete with all UK channels and Apple TV) - you can have breakfast gazing out at the mountain and, after a hard day on the mountains, get cosy by the fire drinking a glass of wine and watching a film in the evenings.

The only practical point to bear in mind is that direct access to the building from street level is down 3 flights of stairs which might make it tricky for very young children. However once their luggage is installed most guests then use the shortcut to the village via a path across the field in front of the house.

Zermatt has so much to offer all year round: skiing, snowboarding, hiking, paragliding, climbing or simply ambling to meet family and friends at one of the many mountain restaurants (the best that you will find in the Alps). If you have not been here before you will not be disappointed.

The Valais region

The village of Zermatt lies in the Valais region of southern Switzerland just on the border with Italy. Tucked away at the end of the valley with the Matterhorn presiding over it, this is one of the prettiest and most iconic villages in the Alps.

The history of Zermatt is steeped in the history of the early alpinists who were lured here by the concentration of peaks that surround the area and most of all by the Matterhorn. The story, and tragedy, of the first ascent in 1865 has become the stuff of mountaineering legend and the mountain continues to call out to climbers from all over the world.

However, the village has been transformed since those early days: then a small farming community struggled to eke out an existence during the long, hard winters; now Zermatt is a world-class destination for skiers, snowboarders, hikers and anyone who wants to enjoy the extraordinary panorama and experience of being in the mountains.

Zermatt

Zermatt deserves its reputation as one of the world's best mountain resorts - there is a magical quality to it all year round.

The Klein Matterhorn cable car is the highest cable car in Europe (3,883m at the summit) and on a clear day gives you simply breathtaking views out towards Mont Blanc and its surrounding peaks. Alternatively start your day on the Gornergrat railway which originally opened in 1898 and is the second highest railway in Europe (after the Jungfrau) - a great feat of Swiss engineering. From the top of Gornergrat you get a sweeping panorama of 29 "four thousanders" (mountains over 4,000m) including the Monte Rosa which is the highest mountain in Switzerland.

In the winter your lift pass covers the Zermatt and Cervinia and includes some 360km of marked runs but if that isn't enough you can also ice skate, sledge, hike, snow shoe, try curling or simply swim and relax in one of the village hotel's wonderful wellness areas.

In the summer there is glorious hiking, climbing, a fun park for the children, cycling, tennis, squash, paragliding and plenty of places to have a picnic by a lake.

At any time of year Zermatt has something to offer and its mountain restaurants are second to none in the Alps so the gourmet will not be disappointed either.

"Freienmds and when the Small things Matter"

The hired the apartments with a group of friend who we have not been away with before. When we arrived Lizzie was there to help us unpack and carry all the kit down. The apartment great. Modern, Clean and with and the modem fixtures and fitting
You can rent it self-catered but Lizzie cooked on the 1st night (at Resquest) and the food was world class. Also it meant we could relax on the 1st night and talk to Angus and Lizzie about snow conditions and the best place to ski using their local experience. The 1st thing you notice is how modern and the high level of detailing on furniture and fittings within the apartments.
The Facilities in the 3 big on suite rooms and the living areas was great. The right level of technology as everyone could watch latest movies at the same watch local TV & UK based TV. After watching the news we all started to play games on the large table with a View out to the village and the mountain
Breakfast Food was there on arrival and Angus and Lizzie can down the spend the time with us to make us feel comfortable for the 1st day onwards The apartment was close to the centre of the village however far away to not have the louse and easy walking
We have been to Zermatt alot over the last years and this was one of the most pleasant and enjoyable stays we had and we felt the warmth of Lizzie hospitality while able to do your own thing. A good balance between the Family and the host

Dear Andrew, Sabine and friends - thank you for taking the time to do a review for us and we are so pleased to know that our 2 apartments worked so well as a base for your trip to Zermatt. It is particularly nice seeing groups like yours appreciating what we have done to try and make both flats places that people can relax in at the end of a good ski day. I hope we will be able to welcome you back for more skiing or hiking in the summer? Best in the meantime, Lizzie and Angus

"We loved the flat, very comfortable and felt like home"

Lizzie is a very welcoming host and fabulous cook. She organised everything very effectively, our holiday was stress free and great fun. The flat worked very well for our family of 5. We found it very relaxing and enjoyed the large living space with wonderful views. The flat is very well designed and decorated, she even had a Christmas tree for us. Great TV, wi-fi and speaker system up. Highly recommend it.

Oh thank you Sarah - what a nice review and it was lovely to see you all looking at home in the apartment and enjoying it in the way we hoped people would (cooking the goose was particularly impressive) as well as getting so much covered on the mountain. I hope that 2015 gets off to a good start for you all and look forward to seeing you again soon. Very best wishes to all, Lizzie

"Chez Nous - Mishabel is absolutely gorgeous in every way"

Chez Nous is a beautiful apartment. All the bedrooms have lovely views particularly the main bedroom which looks directly across at the Matterhorn. The apartment is very spacious and absolutely immaculate. It is furnished beautifully with lots of little luxurious touches. The kitchen has everything you need and a lot more besides.

Lizzie is extremely helpful and pleasant and if we had been new to Zermatt I am sure she would have helped us find our way around.

We have had many holidays in Switzerland and I think this was one of the best.

Thank you Sarah for taking the time to do that and for such a nice review of your stay with us. It was lovely to meet you all and I do hope that we will see you here again at some stage but in the meantime best wishes to you all for the rest of 2014, Lizzie

"Quality fittings and space"

Centrally located, though steps up to road - as also for most of village. Large rooms with well fitted kitchen and bathrooms - views of Matterhorn great when it shows itself. We were 4 adults and 3 children (one in a cot) - we also had friends staying below us - but dining and kitchen was big enough for all to eat together (kids on bar stools).
Apartment fitted out beyond what is required for a rental property - especially the gadgets.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review Mike and hope that you have all recovered from the orienteering week.

We are so glad that you appreciated the "extras" that we have furnished the flats with to try and make it feel more than simply a "rental" - and hope that we may be able to welcome you back at some stage. But best wishes to you all for the rest of the summer, Lizzie

"Perfect Mountain Holiday"

We fell in love with this house - it was in the perfect location with incredible views and included just everything we could have needed - and more. The house is beautifully decorated and so comfortable that you'll never want to leave. Lizzy was a wonderful host and had even baked a delicious lemon cake for us upon our arrival. We would love to return in the future and would recommend this flat to anyone.

Thank you Lindsay - it's so nice to know that you all appreciated the "home stay feel" that Angus and I have tried to create here and I hope that we will be able to welcome you back for some winter skiing as well one day!

Best wishes to you all, Lizzie

"Superb Apartment"

Mischabel Apartment has it all. Great quiet location but easy access to the town and all ski lifts plus fantastic views of the Matterhorn. The owners, Lizzie and Angus, go the extra mile to make you feel welcome in their beautifully decorated apartment which is spotlessly clean and extremely well equipped. The Apple TV/Music System is exceptional and a big hit with our high tech off spring!

We have been skiing in Zermatt for 14 years and stayed in various Hotels and Apartments. We would not hesitate to recommend Mischabel Apartment as it is perfect for a family or a group of friends and we will definitely return as it exceeded our expectations.

Dear Jo,

Thank you for taking the time to review the apartment. It was so nice to see you all enjoying The Mischabel (after our email exchanges about it) and appreciating what we have tried to create here. I could sense the relief when they saw the TV and knew that they could watch the rugby in HD and in comfort!

I hope that we will be able to welcome you back next season but in the meantime enjoy the spring weather that seems to have arrived in the UK and very best wishes to you all, Lizzie and Angus
