Chalet Julen Penthouse is doubtless the most magnificent property in Zermatt, an enormous penthouse situated in a wooden chalet in Zermatt, it blends in a enchanting symphony of architecture, steel, bottom-up panoramic windows and wood.

Zermatt's internationally acclaimed architect, Heinz Julen, designed this extraordinary double-level 260m2 penthouse. With concepts such as a fireplace nesting in the middle of the living-room window, and original hand-made furniture (including Julen's famous chandeliers and chairs), it has featured in several designer magazines.

Very airy in feel, due to the extensive use of glass roofs, the chalet has a unique bird's nest view of the village and the Mischabel mountains. Access is a 2 minute walk from the top of the Omnia Hotel lifts, for which you will have a private key. The village end of the lift delivers you to the heart of Zermatt, in the main street close to the church.

On the main floor there is a large living room with three separate seating areas, a dining section, the open-plan kitchen and two terraces. There are two bedrooms with high beamed ceilings at each end of this floor. Each bedroom has an en-suite shower/WC, TV and a balcony.

The top floor consists of the master bedroom with a free-standing round Jacuzzi bath, sloping glass ceilings, stunning views, and a separate en-suite shower/WC.

On the ground floor you will find the fourth double bedroom with en-suite massage shower and WC; your private glass-fronted sauna, an exercise room with a treadmill and two loungers to relax in.

All three floors are accessed by your own private elevator and/or stairs. Superb, stylish and clever, the Chalet Julen Penthouse vies with the Loft for the prize of Zermatt's most original property.

All guests of the Chalet Julen Penthouse have free access between 1 pm and 5 pm to the SPA of the Backstage Boutique Hotel.

Access is a 2 minute walk from the top of the Omnia Hotel lifts, for which you will have a special key. The village end of the lift delivers you to the heart of Zermatt, in the main street close to the church.

The sense of space, light and closeness to nature that Chalet Julen Penthouse provides is unequalled: there are no barriers between the nature outside and the home space inside - all is fluid and free. On the two sides overlooking the village, the walls consist of floor to ceiling glass, with French windows 6 metres high leading to a large terrace. (There is a white electric exterior curtain that can wrap itself around all that glass if need be). The ceiling is supported by seven columns, while the glass walls have an inset fireplace and three alcoves.

The Valais region

Regarded by many as Switzerland's top ski resort and by those in the know as the world's best, Zermatt is extremely picturesque, car-free and offers spectacular views of the Matterhorn and 28 other 4,000 metre peaks surrounding the mountain village. Known as the "Matterhorn Ski Paradise" the united Zermatt, Cervinia and Valtournenche ski areas offer one of the largest skiable domains in the world.

In addition to unrivalled winter sports opportunities, Zermatt offers a charming and bustling village, high mountain scenery, easy winter hiking trails, gourmet mountain restaurants, old churches, a sense of history, lively apres-ski, sophisticated live music, child-care and much much more. In a nutshell: it ticks more boxes than any other resort we know; we chose Zermatt after having skiied in all the best resorts of the world.

Zermatt's top lift is the Alps' highest at 3,800 metres, giving the world's biggest pisted vertical of 2,200 metres. All year round glacier skiing and extensive snow making on the lower slopes guarantee snow from top to bottom throughout the season. The runs are well groomed and varied, offering both pleasure and challenge for beginners, intermediates and experts alike. There is more skiing than can be possibly done in one week. With the assistance of our local guides, the terrain also offers near to infinite off-piste opportunities and the Alps' most extensive heli-ski operation.

Other highlights of your stay will of course include the best selection of mountain restaurants in the world and an explosive aprs-ski vibe. One can enjoy live music of a variety of kinds be it in mountain huts during the day or trendy jazz-clubs and piano bars in the evening.

When you need a break from skiing, there are a multitude of other activities, for example, take one of the many fantastic walks that lead into lost and forgotten hamlets nestled deep in the Alpine forests and let that mountain scenery take away all your cares.
