The Swiss Alps / Valais/Swiss Alps region

The idyllic village of Zermatt benefits of a special southern Alps climate. This is a very sunny region. The resort is situated at 1620 meters above sea-level in the south-west of Switzerland, in the German-speaking part of the canton of the Valais.
Winter : snow and ice for pleasure and liberty feeling, most of the ski runs over 2000m
Spring: first flowers of the alps, enjoy Easter time
Summer: walks in the pine forests, perfume of the south, scent of flowers, hot wind on the face, hiking
Autumn: gold of larch trees, mildness of this particular climate and then feeling the first snow

How to get there

The most convenient airport to fly into is Geneva and then transfer by train. There is a train station at the airport and trains leave approx every hour. You will then go along the lake of Geneva and across Valais to Visp. From that small city the legendary Matterhorn Gotthard railway will bring you directly to Zermatt after a 90-minute journey through the romantic, rugged Vispa Valley. Travel by train from Geneva to Zermatt is 3h30.
When you chose to fly to Zürich airport there is a also a train station at the airport. You will go to Zermatt via Bern and get direct train connections in Brig and Visp. As from December 2007 the journey Zürich-Zermatt will be 3h16.

“Eric
Just wanted to say thank you - we had a fabulous holiday - your apartment is great and we felt very at home there.
We absolutely loved Zermatt, the skiing was amazing and the nursery for our little one was great. Our eldest son, Charlie who is 3, learnt to ski with the Snowli ski school and was skiing with us by the end of the week - it made our holiday!
I think we were also very lucky with the weather.
Thanks again and best wishes.
Vikki O'Connor
PS - Let us know if you have any free weeks to fill ! .....when does the season finish in Zermatt?”
