* 10 minute walk (approx 600m) to the Areitbahn.

* Lockers are available at the Areitbahn, so you do not have to carry equipment or walk in ski boots.

* The route to the Areitbahn is along a pedestrian route shared only with bicycles.

* Equipment hire also available directly at the Areitbahn (with free storage).

* For complete beginners, you don't need a full lift pass to use the Schmidolins and Bambi Lifts at the Areitbahn.

* When you progress up the mountain, the Areitbahn takes you directly to the beginners area. If you stay in right in the centre of Zell am See, you have to get a bus (with your equipment).

* The Areitbahn can take you to the top of the mountain whereas the City Express only takes you to 1300m.

* 3-4 minute bus (free with your lift pass) ride to central Zell, or a beautiful walk (2km) around the lake.

* A taxi from central Zell am See is about €8, and all taxis are people carriers taking up to 8 people.

The apartment is located in a residential area, away from any busy roads. The apartment itself is very large and occupies half of the top floor of a traditional chalet-style block. The only other apartment on the top floor is not directly connected so you can be sure of a good night's sleep. The balcony and windows all offer breathtaking mountain views, and because the balcony is under the overhanging roof, you can sit outside even if it's raining.

Local amenities, such as shops, restaurants, bars and children's play areas are a few minutes walk away. Bus and tram stops are also nearby and offer quick, reliable connections to the town centre, the two championship golf courses, the Kitzsteinhorn glacier and places of interest.

The Austrian Alps region

Variety is the spice of life and Austria has this to offer in abundance! Whether you are looking for outdoor adventure or the classic feel of the urban centres, you'll be spoilt for choice. Art, music and architecture vie with adventurous high altitude pursuits for your attention. Good food, good service and a family friendly atmosphere give you the level of hospitality the Austrians are renowned for. All the perfect ingredients needed for a fantastic holiday.

The Salzburgerland region offers many diverse places of interest. Salzburg itself is described as a Baroque jewel and is of course associated with the kitsch classic "The Sound of Music". Moving away from Salzburg, the region's natural environment is particularly fantastic. The Hohe Tauern National Park, a high alpine nature reserve, invites you to view it's rich flora and fauna and spectacular mountain peaks, while a visit to the Krimmler Wasserfalle, to experience the cascading torrent of the Krimmler Ache, is truly memorable.

Zell Am See

Nestled between the Schmittenhohe mountain and one of Austria's most picturesque lakes, the medieval town of Zell am See is the perfect alpine destination.

In winter it is a Mecca for winter sports enthusiasts, offering snow-sure skiing and snowboarding to an altitude of 3200m. For the non-skiers there's plenty of other activities available, like ice skating on the frozen lake, winter hiking, horse riding through the snow, tobogganing, or simply the opportunity to relax in one of the many mountain huts and enjoy the view.

In summer, the number of activities available is vast, and includes; hiking, golf, mountain biking, horse riding, tennis and glacier skiing and snowboarding. The lake, which can reach 23 degrees in the summer, provides a spectacular backdrop for the many water-sports on offer, including; swimming, windsurfing, sailing and water-skiing.

"Large and comfortable apartment to relax after a day on the slopes"

The apartment felt warm, light and spacious. It is in a quiet residential area and it took us about 15 minutes to get to the ski lift. All the rooms were clean and comfortable - I particularly enjoyed relaxing in the separate lounge after a day on the slopes! I'd recommend staying here (as well as trying the local apple strudel and custard).
