The Island of Gozo region
Gozo is a small island, just north of Malta. It's quiet and rural, but has culture by the bucket-load.
Gozo is a very Catholic country, so nearly everyone goes to church on Sunday. Therefore throughout the year there is an endless list of religious feasts and events that are held to celebrate this. One of the more popular events would most certainly be the large festival in the capital, Victoria called Santa Maria (held 15th August). This festival commemorates the day that the Virgin Mary was told she was going to give birth to the Messiah. The whole of Gozo flocks to Victoria to celebrate and a what a celebration it is: fireworks, food, the band, horse races, its all there! What about the sea! The sea is amazing! It's like a giant swimming pool. The Maltese Islands have some of the best underwater visibility in the Mediterranean. Visibility can even reach 50m which makes it a great location for snorkeling and scuba diving. The sea life is absolutely incredible. Fishes of all varieties, shapes and colours, in packs of hundreds and thousands! There's also octopi, barracuda's and much, much more...
So while your here you should not miss a visit to Victoria's Citadel, and Fungus Rock, then take a boat ride from the Inland Sea and sail out into the open sea to the Azure Window, the Ggantija Temples (Megalitic) and all the the other 7 Wonders of Gozo! There's lots to do, and all you've got a' do is book your flight and farmhouse(and car hire too of course.) And there you have it.... Gozo - A little taste of heaven.
Zebbug area
The old hilltop town of Zebbug, Gozo, is located in the northern part of the island. It is set on a pennisular ridge with agricultural land and valleys on either side and the sea at the northern edge. The area has magificant views of surrounding landscape right up to the capital city of Victoria. The capital city has plenty of well stocked supermarkets and also boosts a daily outdoor market. The town of Zebbug is situated close to seaside village of Marsalforn, which is ideal for summer evening dining and after dinner strolls by the sea.
It is common knowledge that there has been a church on the hill of iz-Zebbug since time immemorial. A chapel dedicated to the Assumption of Our Lady is first recorded in 1615, but it surely must have been much older than that. Bishop Baldassare Cagliares, who carried out a pastoral visit that year, noted with pleasure that it was one of the best kept chapels on the island.
Around 1640, the community living in the vicinity felt the need to build a new larger chapel, which was finished by 1644. The village feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is celebrated on the first Sunday following the 16th of August each year. During that week, the church and the village houses are finely decorated, the whole village is illuminated, and brass bands play marches in rousing celebration.
The church is nowadays thoroughly embellished with several works of Gozo onyx. This onyx, sometimes referred to as Gozo alabaster, was unearthed in a field in the vicinity of the church, and is one of the village's most proudly cuddled treasures. These works of onyx have transformed the parish church into an extravagant but unique array of artistic sculptures. One simply cannot be but awed by the consummate altar, pulpit, font, chandeliers, confessionals, and other superb onyx works. This undoubtedly renders the Zebbug Parish Church one of Gozo's best attractions.

Hi Simon The farmhouse was so chilled that Aileen, inspired by Doranne's paintings, did some pastel drawings. Thanks again Forrest Sloan
Dear Simon Just wanted to drop you a note to say how much we enjoyed our holiday and what a beautiful house you have! Everyone enjoyed it so much - the pool was excellent, people lovely, scenery beautiful. We couldn’t have asked for a nicer place to stay – once again, many thanks. Kind regards, Liz Birchby
Dear Doranne After a couple of years we have been tempted back by memories of Gozo for our Summer holiday, having been constantly reminded by the painting in our hall! regards Tim Mercer
