The Ionian Islands region

The Ionian Islands are located in the Ionian Sea, off the west coast of Greece and are composed of Corfu, Kefalonia, Zakynthos, Lefkada, Ithaca, Paxos and Kythira. The islands are well known for their beautiful sandy beaches, crystal clear waters, charming villages and stunning scenic countryside which is verdant and flourishing with greenery and nature. Each Ionian island has a distinct character and between them they offer everything you could wish for from a Greek Island holiday.

Zakynthos

Zante, also often known as Zakynthos, is the most southerly of the Ionian Islands and one of the most popular Greek islands. Triangular in shape Zante island has three distinct geographical areas: the north west is mountainous with quaint traditional mountain villages, the central region is a fertile plain rich with olive groves and vineyards and the south east is characterised by beautiful beaches. There is something for everyone on this floating island of paradise with numerous sandy beaches, mountain villages preserving the traditional Greek way of life, beautiful natural scenery, water sports and good quality restaurants, bars and nightclubs to more than cater for all your entertainment needs. The locals welcome tourists with open arms and offer them the hospitality which Greece is famous for.

"Great Villa on Zakynthos"

Our family of 5 stayed in this Villa for 7 wonderful days. It would be by far the best place we have stayed during our 6 week European holiday. The villa is appointed with all the features and benefits one could ask for. It was spotlessly clean and everything worked well. The property is very comfortable, private and very well set out for a group of 5/6 people. The booking and communication process with Rick the owner was effortless and informative and we were greeted on arrival by the property's caretakers who were great throughout our stay. They had stocked the fridge with some drinks for us and gave us a detailed description of the surrounding area. Book a car to get around and note that you are staying on the good side of the island to access all the fun things to do. Within a 2 minute drive north you get to Makris Gialos, a small beautiful beach from where you can also book and do tours to Navagio (shipwreck cove). We booked a tour for 5 of us for around € 60 and it's a must see. A further 10 minutes up the road is the port of Skinari, where you can put the car on the ferry to neighboring Kefalonia and spend the day exploring its beaches and tavernas. Heading south from the villa there is Xigia beach which is uniquely magical and just up the hill a little way on your left is a traditional and unassuming taverna. Doesn't look flash but the food and the service is sensational. Go there for dinner sit and watch the sun go down over the coast, eating delicious octopus on the char grill and sipping ouzo. Further along you can drive to Alykes (15 minutes) for beaches, tavernas, ATM, and supplies or follow the coast road to Tsilivi for more shops, supplies etc. In Tsilivi there is a great taverna called Paradiso. This place is awesome. Ask for directions to get there, as the food is authentic Greek, fresh and delicious and very reasonably priced. We paid about € 55 and we ordered everything and ate like kings. It's located right on the water so it really was paradise. Driving to Zakynthos port and onwards down the coast via Argassi, visit Banana Beach Bar. It's an amazing place for everyone to spend the day laying back by the beach, eating drinking, swimming and chilling to the music and the atmosphere. On the way back home we stopped and bought a watermelon and watched the children devour it in 30 mins when we got home. It all added to the wonderful experiences on Zakynthos and this villa's location made everything easy. This is the place to stay!!
