The Ionian Islands region

The Ionian islands are the ones situated at the west of Greece dividing it from Italy. They are well known for their turquoise colored waters and the absence of the strong north winds which reign in the Aegean Sea. Nearby, on the mainland, lies the ancient site of Olympia, where the Olympic games were held in antiquity and which is worth visiting. The Ionians, first invaded by the Venitians for their vicinity with the east markets and for their own products such as raisins, then invaded by the English for the same reasons, still have many elements of these two civilisations such as the music, theatre, poetry and cuisine.

Zakynthos or Zante, called the flower of the levant "fioro tou levante", is the very famous island of the Ionian because of its many wide, sandy beaches with shallow, warm, crystal clear, sparkling water, ideal for relaxing and unwinding.Zakynthos is first mentioned by Homer in the Odyssey.

The island is surrounded by beaches and coves of unique natural beauty. Boat trips to unspoiled secluded coves are possible.

The east and south coast of the island are easily accessible and sandy. The west ones are accessible only by boat or a couple of roads

and are wild and mostly pebbled. The inner part of the island is fully cultivated and its main products are olive oil, olives, raisins and a

local, very unique in taste ,cheese called "dopio" meaning local. One can visit many different old villages and taste the very interesting local cuisine. Once a colony of the Venitian empire many venitian ruins still remain to visit such as the fortress on Bohali hill.

"Perched on a hillside overlooking the Ionian sea- idyllic"

We had a wonderful holiday in the glorious island of zante, and every day looked forward to returning to this lovely villa. It is set in rambling grounds with fruit trees and fragrant flowers, Perched on a hillside overlooking the Ionian sea and the bay of zante town.
The interior is modern and functional and we lacked nothing and I have fond memories of our many bbq's under the clear star studded skies.
Virginia and her family are zakynthian and made so much effort to make sure we lacked nothing and explored every bit of their magical island.
I can thoroughly recommend this villa

"A dream holiday"

I cannot thank Virginia enough for renting her villa - it was magical and my husband and I spent an enchanted holiday there.
The villa was perfect for us, intimate and authentic. The location was brilliant - close to town but very quiet with magnificent views from the bedrooms and the terrace where we spent the heat of the day listening to cicadas and watching sail boats glide by on the horizon.
Zanthe is a jewel of an island; aquamarine waters, emerald forests, olives, vineyards...
