The Carpathian / Polish Mountains / Tatra Mountains/Krakow Area
Zakopane , Poland's premier mountain resort is one of the most popular holiday destination , both in the winter for skiing, and in the Summer for hiking. Zakopane is Poland's highest town, its about 1000m above sea level. The highest Peak is the Polish Tatras is Mt. Rysy, reaching 2499m above sea level.
Kasporowy Wierch ( excellent for skiing) and its summit can be reached by the cable car from Kuznice. It can be very busy so pre-booking ticket is strongly adviced. The view from the summit is breathtaking. Nosal is another top choice for skiing.
There are miles of well signposted walks in the Tatra National Park with the most amaizing views. You can stop and rest on the way at one of the many mountain huts and sample some excellent home made polish cuisine, or after a long day hiking in the Tatras return to the town for a meal and listen to local folk music in one of many traditional restaurants made of wood ( chalet style).
One of the 'must visit' places is the Gubalowka Mountain. You can walk or take a cable car to the top where you will have uninterupted view of the Tatras . At the top you can visit one of the many stalls selling hand made traditional goods , go quad biking or try traditional horse and cart ride.
Zakopane area
There are plenty of museums in the town, the most significant and the oldest being TheTatra Museum. Mountain Culture is explored in the Tatra Folk Centre. Zakopane has become something of a mecca for mountain culture , with the folk culture celebrating at the annual International Festival of Highland Folklore every September. Out of the ski season many trips can be be organised at the touristcentre, those include Splyw Dunajca - raft river trip between the mountains near the Slovakia border, and to Slovakia's Water Park and many more. In Zakopane visit the Aqua Park with its indoor and outdoor pools with natural hot spring water, spa, jacuzzie, steam rooms. There are also high-wire Adventure Parks for children and adults. Visit the amazing ski jumps which are used in the summer and winter.
