About the home

A nice, just refurbished, big room with air con (in the high season night use cost included in the price) for a good night sleep and continental breakfast. Free airport transfers. In central position in lovely old town of Zadar. Pedestrian zone in the center of the town, quiet and clean. Balcony with a view. Linen and towels provided. New comfortable beds and mattresses. Unlimited Wi-fi if you wish to use your laptop or you can use ours occasionally to stay in touch and keep informed. You can choose culture, sun bathing and swimming, bird watching during your stay. Four national parks in short driving distance from the town: mountains, islands, lakes or waterfalls. We can take you to Plitvice or Krka waterfalls, island of Pag, Split, Medjugorje or you can go yourself, plenty of choice in town. If you wish to look for the property to buy we know the area, law and customs.

IMPORTANT: We don't mind smokers, as they can enjoy cigarette and a drink on the balcony, we don't smoke ourselves and prefer smoke free house.

PLEASE NOTE: Zadar is fully functioning Mediterranean town with all amenities and beautiful surroundings so you can be entertained in the town and escape to uncrowded beaches and places during the day if you wish to do so.

IMPORTANT WARNING: Many places advertised are in remote location, with no amenities around and still with a lot of tourists and crowded in the high season. Out of season very, very boring and after a day you will have to come to town where is quiet but a lot of good quality choices for eating out, entertainment, beaches, shops and transport. You have to calculate the cost of local transport, taxis or car hire if you want to see something and do something. They are advertised as Zadar but they are not, it takes an hour or more to reach the town and there is no air con in the buses and it is hot and crowded in the high season. You will pay for the local transport as much as for accommodation and you will have to use taxi in the evening.

If they say it is 10 minutes from the town don’t believe it if you don't have a pair of wings. It is not a city bus, it goes every 2 hours, it is not reliable and you have to wait for it and walk to and from the station and on +30 C heat (from the early morning) it is not a pleasant experience. To waste 2 hours of your valuable holiday time and energy is simply a bad holiday experience. We talked to the people who made a mistake staying out of the town but it was too late to change it and that is why we would like you to choose wisely.

We can drive you places or to the secluded beach as well. We are very flexible and we can change plans very easy in agreement with you. Center of the town position. Just walk out and amenities, culture or fun is there. Located on the main pedestrian street (on the quiet side street) full of restaurants, cafes and shops, free open air concerts daily in town in the high season. Supermarket 100 m away, 3 min walk. Town fruit and vegetable farmers market and fish market by the supermarket. Fresh fruit and veg directly from local producers available daily. Sea front 3 min away on both sides of peninsula. Ferries for local islands and beaches 3 min away (about £2 one way ticket). They leave every hour for 20 minutes trip from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.. Local buses 10 min walk away or we can take you where you wish by car on agreement. Very good sailing area in Kornati national park, possible boat hire nearby if you would like to explore the area by sail or motor boat or enjoy some fishing.

Available to rent on weekly basis. Longer weekends can be considered as well, but weekly stays preferred especially in high season. If you stay with us only for a couple of days in the short stay price calculation you have take into the account that we will wait for you on your arrival and take you to the airport or bus station on your departure. This adds value and you don't waste your time and money searching for us. In that way you can still count traveling day as your holiday and use it to see and do someting you like. Zadar is 3000 years old city, open museum. There is a plenty to see and do for modern visitor. You will be in the center of the town in the midst of all happenings and monuments and local farmers market and many shops, close enough to the transport links to explore the area if you wish. You can fly with cheap Ryan Air flights straight to Zadar from London (Stansted), East Midlands, Marseille, Stockholm, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Oslo and Brussels. Ryan Air changes that very often so please check.

With Croatia airlines or other companies you can fly to Zagreb. There are direct flights to Zagreb from most European countries and from further afield. From Zagreb, where you can stay for a day or two, there are direct short connecting flights to Zadar or you can use fast, safe, comfortable, cheap and efficient bus service to Zadar (leaves almost every hour) and see more of beautiful Croatia.

Zadar is also connected with Italian city of Ancona with overnight ferry if you arrive from Italy. The ferry departs every second night of the week and even more often in the high season

We are providing transfer from and to the airport or the bus station at arrival and departure free of charge. We can also, on agreement, provide other transfers and optional excursions. Local ferries to local islands (20 min away) with secluded beaches are 100 m away, beach is 100 m or we can take you surfing, kite surfing etc if you wish and we agree on terms and conditions.

“Goran and Vlatka are excellent hosts who go out of their way to show guests around and offer extensive local knowledge.” This bed and breakfast is in a fantastic location in the centre of the old town of Zadar. We found it clean and comfortable. Goran and Vlatka offer a very personalised service and have a wealth of local knowledge. They took us on some excellent and reasonably priced tours which we wouldn't have experienced on our own. Their English is excellent and their hospitality went beyond what would usually be expected from a bed and breakfast (Vlatka cooked us local delicacies! Goran picked us up a week later to take us back to the airport.) Response: It was pleasure to meet these nice guests and to show them just a bit of beautiful Croatia. It is always nice if the guests accept our hospitality and advice and enjoy their holiday and realise that the service we offer is in many ways special. We are also very flexible and can adjust to most of wishes and abilities. It was overall 5 star review and experience for all of us.

“Fantastic!!! Enjoyed every minute, and Eddie and Linda, are great people!” We enjoyed our stay very much, the appartment is close enough to get around to everywhere you'd want to see and just far enough out to sit back and relax when the heat gets too much. Eddie and Linda were fantastic, they were at hand if we ever needed anything and had plenty of information in the folder for anyone to plan something different for a 6 month holiday. the only bad thing was we only had 10 days. There's a bus stop for a bus to Zadar centre just down the road and the old town is just a short 20 min walk from where it lands, its well worth a trip. We loved it and after seeing the appartments within the centre, its definitley a better choice to stay outside the main centre, especially as its only 10kuna on the bus to the centre. Bibinje is a great place, still has all the charm of a little fishing village, with enough to keep you going if you just wanted to stay there. The local resteraunts are all realy nice, good food, and drink, and all very very reasonable on the pocket. We didn't get a bill over £20 with food and drink included. Oh and the pizza's are excellent. There are loads of places selling it by the slice for about 10 or 12 kuna, ideal for a quick and filling snack, but 1 was never enough for me. ;o) The sunsets were fantastic, and the views from the coast were amazing. Eddie and Linda'll tell you the best place in the world to see a sunset, Alfred Hitchcock should've gone to see them. ;o) If your looking for a place to stay, Ediie and Linda provide an appartment which is ideal, and a service second to none, they're lovely people and we hope to one day return. I recommend the trips to Krka ( a must, if you go, you'll understand, its breathtaking) It is busy and there are lots of people, but everyone stays on the walkways so that means the views and scenery are unspoilt, and they are definitley worth it. Also the trip to Kornati islands is well worth it, if you take a treck up the hill between the resteraunts the views of the cliffs and the salt lake are fantastic. We also did a boat trip around Zadar, its only and hour and its very informative, plus you get a great view of the old town from the outside, I reccommend the sunset tour, you'll get some great views and photo's. Thankyou so much for helping make it the best holiday either of us has ever had. I really do hope we find our way back one day, and I wouldn't pick anywhere else to stay if we did. Response: In the case that someone thinks that sometimes we are Goran and Vlatka and sometimes Edie and Linda I have to point out that this is wrongly posted review. But as it is here and I care about the guests I will comment on it in the hope that it will be removed at some point. Although the guest loved the place so much he didn't remember the name as we are Zadar Central and he stayed about an hour out of the town (out of Zadar completely) and it is really difficult to mix this two. He mentioned that the bus arrives 20 min walk from the centre but not how long he waited for one? The difference on +35C is huge and exhausting and every time when you go somewhere else you have to go to the centre of the town. So there and back, at least two hours, in the season and out of the season you will pay for taxis. What can you do there out of the season and how many places are open? Everybody can choose but they need to know the facts. Also, he visited just one part of national park Krka (the busiest and therefore crowded) which is huge and there are places out of the tourist trail and beautiful to see and we can show it to the guests should they wish so. Obviously their hosts couldn't. The trip they thought they took to national park Kornati didn't go to Kornati at all, it is well known tourist trap. It went to nature park Telascica (according to the guest description), nice itself, but reachable from Zadar by local ferry for less money and without drunken tourist crowd on other 20 boats which go there daily. Also from the same ferry you can take the same photos as on the boat tour of the town for which reviewer paid £15 for 2 people for one hour. He mentions what is cheap but not what cost more. So, to summarise if I go to Scotland I would ask Eddie and Linda. They will give you an advice about Croatia (and a kid on the street would as well) and you might leave Croatia without knowing that it was wrong advice. You will get much better advice from Croatian people (especially born and raised in Zadar) in Croatia. It makes sense, isn't it?

“Good and bad” This is a B&B which has its pro and cons. Its really central and familiar. Sometimes it may be too much. For instance noise, it´s not from traffic, but not being a catholic I was disturbed by the bells from the very closely situated church which are ringing all night around, Sometimes the advices given by the hosts are too many and occasionally you want to make your own decisons about what to do and to see. However we got the feeling that it was not appreciated by the hosts. So if you want to be taken care this B&B is highly recommended but if you want to do your own experiences select another one. Response: Everything in life has its pros and cons. I don't think that needs explaining. One can read about the bells many times in these reviews so did this guest before he arrived and it is unusual comment from someone who wears hearing aid. What kind or religion is someone has nothing to do with it and it is a private matter. Of course that not any holiday and accommodation is suitable for everyone. There is always a choice and these guests had it before he booked with us; descriptions on the web pages are detailed and reviews as well and I will answer any question in advance if necessary. The purpose of all that description and reviews is to find a guess that will enjoy the holiday and not complain about nonsense afterwards. The main problem with this 70 year old guest is that he doesn't appreciate finer things in life .We gave this elderly couple an advice in good fate that there is no shade on the deserted island where they booked to go and to spend half a day. On our advice they took our umbrellas without even asking (that reoccurred on other occasions and other stuff) and that provided them with some shade. I gave them that advice as I would give it to my parents and it was based on previous guests experiences. The reason was that I didn't want to see them in the hospital with a sun stroke or something worse. They already bought the ticket for that excursion and there was not any other reason do give them that advice then to see them well afterwards. They admitted that umbrellas and our advice were very useful. We inform the guests about the options and are slightly disappointed if they don't listen to us as they are missing beautiful things. We are all different and have different priorities and possibilities and we perfectly understand and accept this and leave guests to choose what they want to do. So if you like our help or like to do your own things stay with us. If you like to end up in the hospital and have a good medical insurance maybe it is the easiest to stay on the 37C heat directly when you arrive and the nature will take care of the rest.

“That Personal Touch!!” Overall, an excellent stay with Goran & Vlatka to celebrate my wife's birthday. A great location from which to explore Zadar and the nearby islands, Situated right in the centre of Zadar everything is close at hand. In addition, the welcome and helpfulness of Goran & Vlatka enhanced our holiday especially on the guided trip we took with them to a National Park. Nothing was too much trouble and we were shown sights off the beaten track which opened our eyes to what Croatia has experienced over the past years. Also meeting two of Vlatka's friends on the trip was a highlight!! We arrived as strangers but left as friends and we will definitely stay here again.

“Very kind and thoughtful hosts” Our room was large and clean with sunny balcony showing view of church etc Accomodation was right in town so we could walk everywhere to all the sightseeing spots. Breakfast was good and Goran's wife, Vlatke quietly catered to our needs. We shared the bathroom but our hosts were most unobtrusive. Goran and Vlatke know so much about the town and about the sightseeing spots that its worth staying with them for at least a couple of nights even if you prefer hotel accomodation or your own rented apartment-that way you will get to know which places to avoid and which are a must. They took us to the waterfalls and it was a most enjoyable day-although doing the 6 hour trek was perhaps too much for us oldies... We were also picked up at the airport and then dropped off when we left-so that was also very helpful indeed. Thoroughly recommend a stay here.

“A home away from home.” I stayed at this guest house for a week in March 2012. It was early in the season, but this did not stop my hosts from doing everything they could to ensure that I got the most out of my visit. Both Goran and Vladka are a wealth of knowledge about Zadar and Croatia in general, and they gave me excellent suggestions for where to go and what to see. Vladka is an excellent cook; my mouth still waters when I think about her poppy seed cake - yummy! Goran was very accommodating and provided transportation to both Paklenica and Plitvice National Parks; both are beautiful, and I"m happy to say that I survived the burra wind that followed us up and down the Paklenica mountains! The room was clean and spacious, and the apartment itself is in a great location, close to everything. It was also a bonus that he provided transportation to and from the bus station and airport. Response: Early and late seasons are suitable for active guests who would like to explore the area and National Parks. We have more time for accommodating nice guests and taking care of their wishes as it is less busy season. We offer more than the cakes and this nice lady was also happy with other specialties of the house. There is professionally trained chef in international and her grandmothers traditional Croatian cuisine (not just the cook) who is looking forward in showing her skills at hand and well educated guide if you need one. Country and the town are also beautiful, so it is a very nice combination all together at any time of the year.

“Fantastic location” The property is right in the center of the town. The see front is just a few minutes walk to either side. The appartment is up 4 flights of stairs and beside the bell tower which rings at 7 every morning, this may not be to everybody's taste, but we didn't mind it. The accomadation was lovely and the food, cooked by the warm and loving Vladka, was beautiful. Goran and Vladka brought us on many trips and went out of their way to show us their beautiful country. They couldn't have done more to make us feel part of their family.

“Fantastic Holiday!” Really lovely room, very clean and bright. The couple were so friendly and helpful. Advised on the best things to do with our week in Zadar and always told us the cheapest way we could do trips (which we really appreciated being students). Would definitely stay there again as the location was perfect. Really really enjoyed my holiday. Response: We always try to help guests with some advice. The wise guests always ask locals/us and have a better holiday. It is a pleasure to help people who think and care. We are independent and not connected to any establishments whatsoever in any shape or form. We seen and tried all the things and places we recommend and also listen to our guests and other visitors and try to collect correct information and then pass it on. The only reason we do that is that happy guest means satisfaction for us and a great pleasure that someone had fantastic holiday.

“Amazing location with friendly hosts” Excellent location in the heart of the city, literally just beside the main promenade. The only downside of this are the bells which ring quite loudly which may not be to everybodies taste. The hosts could not have done more for us during our stay and provided us with an insight into Croatian culture, history and a taste of some beautiful homecooked dishes prepared by the loving & warm Vladka. Response: In accommodation located in the pedestrian centre of beautiful medieval Mediterranean Zadar (or any other town like this) by the 9th century church and 13th century cathedral and a bell tower and other churches and monuments around, there must be some noise from the bells. Guests are expecting that and it is a part of the charm of having a holiday in town such is Zadar. It is no desert island and guests actually love the combination of monuments, churches, promenade, sun and nice weather, long walks by the seaside, sea and beaches, good food and good value, choice of restaurants and bars, good free and paid entertainment, transport links, 4 beautiful national parks in vicinity, relaxing atmosphere and enjoyment and excitement of holiday. The advantages of accommodation in centre of the town with all the bells and whistles (sometimes) are many; otherwise people choose desert islands or remote villages but the bells from the village church might still bother someone.

We take guests for 3 nights, occasionally for 2 nights (please feel free to make an enquiry) if it fits with other bookings and at a slightly higher rate which reflects our cost of preparing the room. Our expenses are the same for guests staying for a week or two days therefore difference in price. By taking shorter bookings we may lose longer bookings. This is a private accommodation and not a hotel or a hostel. They can charge more for one night stay and have permanent staff so I hope you understand why we cannot take one night bookings for people passing by on the way to and from the airport. Zadar and the area are beautiful and deserve exploring for a couple of days at least and we are here to give advice and help as well.

Nightly rate in Euros (or in any currency as long as it is equivalent to the price in Euros) per night for two people including continental breakfast tea or coffee and transfers from Zadar airport on arrival and to Zadar airport on departure (50 E value if you use taxi). Weekly rate include discount. Ideal for 2 people. Early and late in the season single guests welcome, 2 weeks staying additional 5% discount. Prices do not include local city tax of 7 HRK (less than 1 Euro) per day per person, payable directly to the local council. This is necessary for insurance purposes and your own safety, security and piece of mind. This is obligatory to all guests in hotels, camps or private accommodation. Use of air conditioning during the night included in the high season (July and August), the rest of the year the prices are lower and don't include air conditioning. However on paying additional fee of €5 per night you can use it if you wish. This is only for the night use and not for 24 hours use (presumably you will spend time outside and on the beach so you would not need it during the daytime). It is widely known that we do not produce energy ourselves and that we have to pay for it same as all other people so the charge is normal and the rate is usual in this parts of the world.

PLEASE NOTE-PRICE: Accommodation is priced very correctly as we know the market. The rates are higher that the hostels but you will get much more for not much more money, good quality, adjustable, made to order real oak beds and proper (not cheap tourist sort) mattresses , breakfast, transfer, privacy, good advice and personal help if you need it and location close to the sea, entertainment, restaurants, public transport. It is also much, much better value than expensive hotel Bastion just 100m away or even average hotel Porto in the industrial suburbs of the town hard to find and far from the center and in the heath not easy to walk or nerby hostel Forum which charges €29 per person in 4 bed dormitory room and shared toilet with 8 people from 2 rooms without transfers or nice breakfast.. We do not pay or receive any commission from anybody and recommend only what we know and hear from our guests. We are trying to keep guests happy and for what we offer the rates are more than reasonable especially if you calculate all extras we add for free.

OPTIONAL EXCURSIONS Stay in Zadar and see more of Croatia in relaxed, comfortable and informed way (one day for 2 people, car, petrol and driver and guide included; attractions tickets and food not included). Payment on the day of the excursion, further details and prices available on request. Those are just recommended itineraries based on our experiences what people like and what is possible to see in a day but we can change it according to your preferences. 1. PLITVICE waterfalls (on UNESCO's list of natural wonders) national park and inland Croatia, see and feel the lakes, take a boat ride under the waterfalls explore the park and taste local food specialties. SCENIC AND SIGHTSEEING route and a couple of interesting stops on the way there and back. You spend 6 hours (national park's recommended route but it is your decision, you can adjust it if you like) on the lakes and it is worth every minute.

2. KRKA waterfalls national park, swim in the lakes, walk around and visit monasteries (all day excursion, transfers between various beautiful parts of the park included)

3. PAKLENICA, Velebit mountains national park, mountain trails, caves or rock climbing. Island of Pag combined with Paklenica (if time permits) or alone, all day sightseeing, swimming and admiring. Optional visit to famous Pag cheese making factory, degustation, cheese making process and a factory shop.

4. Split, Primosten, Trogir - UNESCO protected town museums and the coastline (with us or local, efficient and comfortable intercity bus service)

5. Medjugorje, shrine of apparitions of Virgin Mary, religious pilgrimage (for a day excursion or we can transfer you there and pick you up and take you to your flight, or any other combination)

6. Bird watching. There are Bird sanctuaries in PAG and Lake Vrana not far from Zadar. There you will find all usual bird watching amenities as well as oportunity to engage in more activities with scientist and volonteers who are stationed there. Lake Vrana is one of the Croatian parks of nature and bird watching is very popular there. In the island of Pag there are two bird watching sanctuaries so you can combine bird watching with visit to that beautiful island and a famous Pag cheese factory and factory shop if you are interested in cheese.

7. Bungee jumping, river Zrmanja canoe safari, white water rafting, parachuting or other similar activities available locally on the high bridges and wild rivers. We show you where or take you there if you like.

8. We can go anywhere you like in Croatia and surrounding countries e.g. Bosnia & Herzegovina or Montenegro for a longer trip if you like and cover the expenses. We do the difficult bits and you enjoy in scenery, food and culture. We know the roads, hidden spots and beautiful places and towns. This is a personal tour and you can see a lot and tailor it to your wishes.

Availability notes:

Availability calendar is not always marked correctly and always e-mail or call for up to date availability. As you can see from the reviews (not all guests leave them althought they enyoj staying with us) we are busy and sometimes dates are filling quickly in the peak times. Sometimes there is more properties availabile so it is difficult to mark the calendar correctly and it is not possibile to remove it. When we mark it as full then unfortunately most likely there is no availability at all. There is a posibility of staying in the town and out of the town for a day or two (on arrival or departure) if availability don't match exactly. We handle all the transfers all around and it is nice change, worked well so far.
