The Dalmatia region

Dalmatia is a region on the eastern coast of Adriatic Sea, situated in Croatia. With only 50 km wide at its widest part, it is mostly a coastal region characterized by its coves, secluded beaches, islands and inlets. Due to the rugged coastline and numerous islands of all sizes and topographies, diving, yachting, kayaking and other outdoor activities are very popular in this part of Croatia. Dalmatian coast is known for its warm sea, constant winds and beautiful wooded islands.

Dalmatian cuisine is essentially Mediterranean, which means plenty of homemade olive oil, garlic, spices and herbal ingredients. The Croatian Adriatic has local products such as cheese from the island of Pag, which is served with olives and homemade bread as an appetizer, Dalmatian smoked ham, beef, pork, lamb under the iron pan, which is excellent, as well as pasta and pizza that can be found in most restaurants.

Do not miss to taste the seafood in Dalmatia. There is plenty of freshly caught fish, including white fish, lobsters, crabs, sardines, clams ..

Croatian cuisine generally offers excellent value for money. It is really hard to find a bad meal, because the Croats are gourmands, and dedicates great attention to food!

Zadar

ZADAR, the capital city of Dalmatia for centuries and today the center of the region, the city is rich with world renowned monumental heritage visible at every step: the Roman Forum from the I century, the church of St. Donatus from the IX century – the most famous medieval basilica, the symbol of the city, the restored church of St. Chrysogonus from the XII century., the steeple of St. Mary from 1105, the cathedral of St. Anastasia from the 13th century, People's Square and City Loggia and Guardhouse from the XVI century, and the ramparts with the representative Port Gate and Land Gate from the XVI century, the Square of the Three Wells and Square of the Five Wells and numerous palaces, villas and other monumental heritage.

Sukošan – a village and harbour in the large bay of Zlatna Luka is about ten kilometres away from Zadar. Due to its extraordinary position and natural beauty, Sukošan is a well developed tourist resort. It offers many restaurants with excellent Dalmatian cuisine and a rich cultural – entertainment program as a part of the Sukošan summer.

It has the largest marina on the Adriatic - Marina Dalmacija, which attracts many sailors. Particularly interesting is the proximity of Kornati and Krka National Park. Running down the length of the village there is an indented bay that has beautiful beaches suitable for families with children, and has sports-recreational facilities. The Zadar Airport – Zemunik is located very nearby.

The Plazs41 apartment house is located in the middle of the beach. The address of the house talks on its own. "Djecji raj" means children's paradise.

"Great place for families"

Two Norwegian families (four adults and four boys at the age 4,6,9 and 9) stayed in the top appartment for two weeks in July. We had a wonderful time in Sukosan, and the appartment was practical with … More

"Amazing house, lovely owner, perfect holiday! :-)"

We've just returned home after spending a week at Plazs41 - what an amazing holiday! I visited with my children, sister and her family and my parent's and we all loved every minute of our holiday. Andrea, the owner could not have been more helpful from the first email when I enquired about the property to taking us to the airport when we left. Every one of our needs was catered for, she went out of her way to ensure that our stay was a happy one. The property it self was perfect for our family of 10. (5 adults, a baby, 2x7 yr olds, an 11 & a 14 yr old) We had the top floor of the house and there was plenty of room for us all. The property is well laid out, clean and finished to a very high standard. The position is almost on the beach and when we went there were no other guests so we had the garden to ourselves too. We all enjoyed the use of the bikes to make trips to the local shops and to see the local area. (We didn't hire a car and didn't feel that this was a disadvantage) We took the bus to Zadar for a day trip, these are regular and cheap. We all particularly enjoyed the use of the kayaks (They come with the property for no extra charge, as do the bikes) There are plenty of life jackets provided too although the sea in the bay is constantly sweeping in so it is perfectly safe to swim and kayak, even for the younger children. Sukosan it self is a small village and as we went out of season it was quiet, which was perfect for us as it felt safer for the children to be able to explore. During the peak season there are more cafes, restaurants and bars open. Eating out is cheap, from getting an icecream (less than £1) to a meal out for all 10 of us including alcohol (£110) We also shopped in the local supermarkets and bought fruit and veg from the small roadside stalls (Of which there are many) there produce is homegrown, of good quality and reasonable.
If you are looking to go to Croatia and do not want to follow the crowds to Dubrovnic then I recommend going here (Flights are much cheaper too to Zadar with Ryanair)
We had an amazing holiday at Plazs41 and I would not hessitate in going back again :-)
