The Zadar / Petrcane area
Petrcane is a small tourist town located 11 kilometers west of Zadar in the direction of Nin and the island of Vir. It is situated between two large capes, Punta Skala and Punta Radman, surrounded by dense pine forests and olive groves.
Beautiful nature was a fundamental prerequisite for the development of tourism and it is not a coincidence that one of the first tourist facilities were built here, in Zadar County. According to the historical remains Petrcane is 900 years old, and according to legend it was named after two brothers, Peter and Zane.
It used to be a small fishing village, but in early 70-ies of last century, it began to develop the tourist industry of this village. Well, for several decades it is on the most famous tourist maps of the Adriatic. During a year several thousands of tourist visit this picturesque place.
Zadar is one of the most popular Croatian tourist destinations, which the London Times has proclaimed the “centre of fun in the Adriatic“, and the Guardian “the new Croatian capital of cool“. The many visitors are won over by the special atmosphere and rich social life – be it day or night. In the summer, Zadar is host to the Musical evenings in St Donat, the Zadar Summer Theatre Festival, the KalelargArt – street art festival, and the urban festival Zadar snova (Zadar of our dreams). Other great opportunities for entertainment are: The Garden Festival, Night of the Full Moon or one of the concerts of world famous musical artists.
Start your day in a small cafe somewhere in the buzzing city, close to the market where you will find mouthwatering displays of fruits, vegetables and more... all locally grown and bursting with flavour. In the city with the most beautiful sunset, in the maritime archipelago facing a multitude of islands and islets which protect the city from the strong winds, enjoy the symphony of the Sea Organ and the magical urban light installation called Greeting to the Sun. As an aperitif, try a glass of the famous Maraschino, a dessert liqueur made from the autochthonous Maraska cherries.
