The Costa del Sol/Malaga region

More than anything else the word 'Andalucía' conjures up images of colourful flamenco and ghosts of the region's Moorish past. From the vast, sandy, unspoilt Atlantic beaches of the Costa de la Luz in the west to the barren mountains and deserts of Almeria in the east.
This huge region is abundant with natural, scenic, cultural and historic wonders: fabulous ancient cities with magnificent palaces and castles, undiscovered remote mountain villages where time appears to have stood still, vast areas of national parks, magnificent mountain ranges and a coastline from the Atlantic to the Med.

The town of Ronda is one of the most popular visitor destinations in Andalucia and is only 40 mins drive from Yunquera. It stands on a towering plateau, which is divided in two by a plunging river gorge known as El Tajo.El Tajo is spanned by a bridge called the Puente Nuevo which was built in the eighteenth century and provides access to both sides of Ronda. On one side of the bridge is the old Moorish town with many historic buildings including the house of the Moorish king. On the other side you will find El Mercadillo, a more recent urban development full of interesting shops and plenty of restaurants. The bullfighting arena of Ronda is the oldest one in Spain.

Around 75 mins drive from Yunquera and just north of Alora is the dam of Conde de Guadalhorce and El Chorro. The dam is a popular camping and picnic area. There are a few good restaurants, cafés and bars here where you relax, eat, drink and admire the views. The Lakes are popular with the Spanish, especially at weekends. A good place to swim, fish or just relax and soak up the sun. El Chorro is 20 mins drive from the lakes and is another popular attraction where those with a strong disposition can walk across the bridge that spans the gorge.

Marbella is approximately 45 minutes drive away for when you want a trip to the coast and beaches. All coastal golf courses are accessible by car and most can be reached within 35-45 minutes. Clubs are available for hire.

If you want to go skiing then he Sierra Nevadas are about 2 and a half hours drive from the house.

Seville, Jerez, Granada and Cadiz are all worth visiting for their historic interests and are within a two hour drive of the house.

Yunquera area

The municipality of Yunquera has the privilege of not only forming part of the Natural Park of the Sierra de las Nieves, but also of the Biosphere Reserve of the Sierra de las Nieves and its surroundings. It has it's own micro-climate, therefore on the side of the mountain where the house is there's an abundance of fruit trees including kiwi, pomegranate, peach and starfruit, only able to grow here and not in the villages above and below Yunquera. Birdwatching enthusiasts will be thrilled to see rare Imperial eagles often flying above the house. It's become more usual to see snow during the winter months up on the mountain above the house in the last couple of years, attracting lots of weekend hikers from the coast. The village is famous for its year-round calendar of fiestas, 4-day, non-stop partying and celebrations! The village is full of telltale signs of its ancient Moorish past, water mills, fountains, architecture and a museum in the water tower. The birth of the famous Rio Grande flows from here and is well worth an afternoons stroll for a swim and a picnic. Horseriding can be arranged from the house and will suit even non equestrians, just a gentle amble on some very well behaved horses through some spectacular mountaintop scenery. There's a football pitch, municipal swimming pool, tennis courts and a campsite at the top of the village.

How to get there

Ryanair to Jerez is a good option and often cheaper than Easyjet to Malaga although the drive is 2 hours to the house. Easyjet to Malaga is the quickest route, only 1hr 15 mins drive to the house. Monarch also fly to Malaga.
We can recommend a car hire company - carjet, they're cheap!

Instructions on how to get to the house will be sent to guests upon booking, along with the house managers contact details.

Guestbook

Hi Lee
That was fabulous. We all had a wonderful, relaxing week at your Spanish home. I am certain that we will be booking again.Everything was absolutely perfect. Hilda was a gem, Enara was fantastic, Les and co at Los Amigos were so very friendly, the infinity pool, the views, the village, the goats, the orange trees, lemon trees, butterflies, birds, sun, and OF COURSE the booze - all contributed to a perfect holiday.
We really didn't want to leave after a week. It wasn't long enough. A taste of paradise!
Thank you once again, Dawn Evans

Hi Lee
Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you......and I have absolutely no excuse except that we had such a fantastic time there that I've come back pregnant!!!! and we've been trying for 18months. Must be something in the air there.
The house was fabulous and exactly what we were looking for. We hope to go again sometime.
(Guests name kept private for obvious reasons!)

Dear Lee,
we just wanted to send you a quick email to thank you so much for the use of
your gorgeous villa. we had an absolutely fantastic honeymoon and really
appreciated the card, flowers, food and sparkling wine that you and Hilda
organised for us- it was such a kind thought.
Your house is absolutely beautiful and everyone in the village was really
friendly. We went to the english-run bar Los Amigos a few times and even
played a gig there which was nice for us. and we were lucky enough to be
there at Corpus Christie festival which was a sight to behold.
Your directions were spot on and we had no problem getting to and from the
airport.
I will definitely reccomend the house to family and friends and hope to
visit again in the future. It made our honeymoon!
Warm wishes,
Holly and David Blackwell

Hi Lee,
Just a quick note to say we have arrived home safely.
We had a fantastic holiday made all the better by the home you have created. I can honestly say we have not stayed in anything better. And that includes a lava bubble! Chris Koslik and family.
