Sunnydale Cottage is a beautiful ONE bedroomed cottage (the second bedroom is now locked and no longer available to guests) which has just been tastefully renovated and upgraded to provide luxury accommodation - your home away from home. The cottage is located down a quiet steep cobbled path, away from traffic (and parking) with super views of Bradford Dale and the River Bradford which is just a few steps away. However there is street parking usually available on the main road at the top of the hill and a village car park not too far away. This cottage provides the perfect retreat, far away from the hustle and bustle of daily life but the local pubs and village shops are just a few minutes walk away. Set within the beautiful Peak District National Park, Youlgrave is an excellent location for walkers and nature lovers. From Sunnydale Cottage they are many walks which can be taken in any direction, you don't need the car to enjoy the stunning countryside but you need to be fit to tackle the walk back up the hill. . Should you prefer to venture further afield Bakewell, Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are all a short drive away - just a few of the many attractions on offer. The cottage probably dates back to the 18th century and retains some of its original features. Although the ceilings are all normal height, one of the special features of the cottage is the low set windows upstairs which makes the property unsuitable for children but fantastic for lying in bed and enjoying the beautiful views. As the River Bradford is just a few steps away soggy dogs are also a definite no - sorry. This location is just perfect for a retreat for those wanting privacy for contemplation. Would be ideal for artists, poets and writers and anyone just wanting to get away from it all and embrace nature.Excellent for enriching mind, body and soul! The Peak District National Park region
The Peak District National Park is the most visited National Park in Britain and yet there is always a beautiful quiet backwater where you can get away from the tourists and find your own bit of heaven.... this best describes Youlgrave village and in particular Bradford Dale where Sunnydale Cottage is situated. Well know as one of the best village displays of Well Dressings in June each year.
There are beautiful walks in all directions to suit all abilities and levels of fitness. The River Bradford provides an easy strolling path but for keen walkers the Limestone Way passes through Bradford Dale just below the Sunnydale Cottage, a 45 mile walk from Castleton in Derbyshire to Rocester in Staffordshire. There are a good range of walking books and maps available for use by guests staying at the cottage.
There are stately homes and grand houses to visit, Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and Eyam hall to name a few and beautiful historical towns and villages including Youlgrave, Bakewell, Ashford in the Water, Eyam ... the list is endless.
There is so much to do many people return year after year.

"A long weekend in The Peak District"
My wife and I had so many plans for our visit to this lovely part of Derbyshire, however, they all went "out of the window" when we arrived at Sunnydale, Four wonderful days of total relaxation in this beautiful cottage. Paula, the owner, has thought of absolutely everything when providing for her guests, the bird book came in particularly handy. Pros: Spotlessly clean and well decorated throughout Nice welcome touch; fresh flowers, milk, wine etc, thankyou, that was very thoughtful Beautiful views of Bradford Dale....don't tell Country File about this gem! Excellent pre visit communication from owner Secluded and tranquil setting, a nature lover's paradise Flexible booking times, (we booked from Thursday to Sunday, (try doing that on C4U) Cons: No direct parking and a pretty steep hill of 100m or so to property, could be a challenge for infirm guests. Summary My wife and I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this accommodation to other potential guests, the only tip we can offer is to keep your plans flexible, once you arrive, you really won't want to go out anywhere!!

"Time stood still"
Firstly, I have to say how accurate Paula's description was, even down to the access issues which are in fact part of the charm of this cottage, we heard absolutely no traffic noise while we were there. There was an abundance of birdsong which since leaving, we have missed badly. My wife said that this cottage was the closest she will get to heaven while still alive. It had a mystical quality to it, for the first time at a holiday let we had no need to go out in the morning and were content just to sit in the garden and to BE there. Likewise in the evening, instead of going out to eat, we brought our food in and ate in the garden in order to prolong the joy that we felt by being at Sunnydale. It is that precious. I would say that it is perfectly feasible to stay there for, say four days and not to use ones car in that time, just to get out and to walk in any direction. We stayed for six. So if you are in any doubt, we enjoyed our stay at Sunnydale.

"Beautiful, cosy cottage and fantastic garden. Highly recommended!"
Sunnydale cottage is a fantastic place to stay while visiting the Peak District. Clean and cosy, it comes equipped with everything you'll need to ensure you have a relaxing break. The small garden is perfect for sitting in and enjoying the sun. It's well kept, with beautiful plants and flowers and bird feeders that attract a variety of birds - we were in enthralled! I'd thoroughly recommend this as a place to stay, Paula really has thought of everything to ensure you have a wonderful time.

We stayed over the bank holiday weekend in this beautiful cottage. It really is total relaxation, peace and quiet. The cottage has everything that you need in comfortable and modern surrounding's. Walks from the cottage in the evening down by the river watching the wildlife, retuning to the cosy cottage with the wonderful gas stove to warm us. Plenty of bird feeders in the garden and loads of birds visiting everyday including blue tits, chaffinch, robin, bullfinch, greenfinch even a woodpecker the handy bird book helped us to name them all. We visited Matlock Bath, Haddon hall and had a lovely afternoon stroll on the Cromford canal. Hope to visit again soon.

"Excellent base for the White Peaks"
A lovely few days in the this very comfortable and well fitted out cottage. The owner was very helpful and had made sure there were supplies for us on our arrival - even down to getting a specially requested coffee. The cottage was warm and inviting and the gas fire a real plus. We will look to return in the future.

"Peaceful, tranquil and rejuvenating home away from home"
We came away for a three day break in the peak district from a hectic London lifestyle. All of us working in Schools and one still attending school. Three days was not long enough. The cottage is beyond beautiful, meticulously clean and thought through to the finest details. We all felt welcomed as soon as we stepped in with provisions of biscuits, crisps and wine (many more little things but those are the essential for any good holiday!) The whole cottage is beautifully furnished, well equipped and the beds incredibly comfortable. We had an amazing time embracing the local area for food and shops and most importantly the wonderful walks that are available right on the doorstep of the cottage. All of us are recommending the cottage to our family and friends and we all plan to come back and stay for longer! Paula is a lovely lady who we were fortunate to meet on our departure and she really does think and plan for you all to feel comfortable and at home during your stay. Thank you so much

"Slice of quaint heaven surrounded by beautiful views"
Perfect location overlooking the Dam - The walk by the Dam is wonderful & leads you to the Village. The walk from the parking area to the cottage is tricky but it only takes one trip to get used to it. This exceptionally clean cottage is filled with little touches & has anything you could possibly need, with a cosy gas stove to keep the chill away in those colder months - Very much home from home. Youlgreave is the best location to stay in if you're a Peak Traveller; quiet, friendly Village with lovely local eateries; The Farmyard, & local pubs; The Bulls Head - Both are just a short walk from the cottage. The owner is very friendly & is always available should there be any questions no matter how big or small - A range of prepared material in the cottage available that should answer any query. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay & were sad to leave - Our love of the Peak District is a good excuse to return.

"Lovely cottage, beautiful location."
Visited the cottage with friends mid-January. Had a fantastic time. The cottage was an excellent mix of traditional and modern, with lovely original features but modern kitchen and bathroom. Made to feel very at home with the little extra touches that our host provided. We found plenty to do in the local area and enjoy the nearby walks, scenery and pubs that Youlgrave had to offer. We then only had to travel a short distance to get to the slightly larger villages of Matlock and Bakewell (both worth visiting) In the end our two night stay wasn't enough. We've already recommended it to friends and would love to return in the summer.

"A tranquil sanctuary ideal for taking time out!"
We had a lovely time at the cottage. I was so reluctant to leave and already looking at when to visit again. Everything was perfect - the location, the setting, and the cottage itself was perfect. We enjoyed retreating and relaxing in such comfortable surroundings. Very relaxing, peaceful and rejuvenating. Watching the birds was also delightful! There are no negative things to say about our stay or the accommodation - we look forward to our next stay!

What a little gem! Spent a fantastic weekend here, just me and my partner. The cottage has been renovated to a high standard with all mod cons but still keeping its old charm and character,Its a true home from home. The cottage is very well equipped and has excellent views of the surrounding countryside offering great walks right on your doorstep. There is a steep incline from the Main Road to the property which would not suit everybody but if you can see past this Sunnydale is well worth a visit and I, for one, will be returning!
