About this location

The Peak District National Park region

The Peak District is an oasis of nature in the heart of England. In contrast to the dramatic mountainous scenery of the Dark Peak, the White Peak, in which Dale Cottage lies, is characterised by charming dales and rolling hills. It's perfect for walkers, birdlovers, dog owners and families who like to be outdoors. And you're never far from a friendly village with a welcoming pub.

Within very easy reach - less than half an hour by car - are Chatsworth, perhaps Britain's greatest stately home, and Haddon Hall, a fine Elizabethan house with excellent gardens. The market town of Bakewell, famous for its puddings, is a delightful place to visit, while Matlock Bath has a unique inland holiday resort character.

Cycling on the trails of old railway lines is another popular activity.

The people of the White Peak are as friendly as you'll find anywhere in England.

An ancient ridge village set above the River Bradford, Youlgrave is one of the friendliest and most interesting villages in the Peak. It's an ideal starting point for walks, with the Bradford Dale (almost on the doorstep of Dale Cottage) joining up with Lathkill Dale, a well-known beauty spot with stunning views and wonderful wildlife.

Youlgrave itself has three excellent pubs serving good food and beer, and holds many cultural and artistic events. The highspot of the village's year is the Welldressings week in mid-summer, where the locals maintain a centuries-old tradition of constructing giant tableaux entirely from petals and leaves; these well dressings are thought to represent a sign of thanks for the gift of water.

"Ideal for people and dogs."

Quiet and relaxing environment, plenty of walks from the doorstep but close to shops, pubs and places of interest. Enjoyed tinkling the piano.… More

Georgeous location, with stunning views and lovely walks by the river within minutes away. Village is great with good pubs and a great butchers/deli/general store. Close to some great locations as well.

Cottage was cosy, well equiped and very comfortable for 2 people.

Will book again when we netx go to the peak district.
