This beautifully restored Victorian townhouse with it’s fine period features is set in the heart of York. The famous York Minster is a 2 minute walk away along with a selection of fine restaurants, designer / gift shops and pubs within a few metres. Nearby Millers Yard (10metres) is a centre for positive living, offering treatment rooms for health and beauty and complementary therapies.
High Heels can easily be worn at Minster Bells as the bars/restaurants are on your doorstep (I have 1st hand experience of the walk into town in heels and know how important this can be - no groaning please from the men!!) In fact the house is closer to town than the actual car parks
Minster Bells is also ideal for family holidays, it is close to the art gallery, the National Railway Museum transfer terminal, Theatre Royal and Bootham Bar (with access to the walled walk). Bootham Bar leads you into the famous narrow cobbled streets full of a quirky mix of curio shops and cafes with street entertainers, the Shambles, museums, the Yorvik Viking centre and so much more within a short distance.

The Yorkshire region
York is a beautiful city in its own right, yet, is also a fantastic location to access the Yorkshire Coast, the Dales and cities for shopping e.g. Leeds and Harrogate. There are a wealth of fabulous beauty spots and places of interest both within York and within a short drive.
Local places of interest are Castle Howard, Beningborough Hall and Harewood House - fine stately homes. Pickering with it's steam railway, historic Knaresborough with Mother Shipton's Cave, Helmsley, a quaint town with its own castle and 2 grand Abbeys close by.
The Yorkshire Coast is approximately 1hr away with Whitby, Scarborough, Robin Hoods Bay, Flamborough Head, Filey and Bridlington as places with natural beauty, history and wild life. Lightwater Valley and Flamingoland are two popular theme parks approx 1hr away by car or bus.
York is an all year round place to visit. It is a haven of tourist attractions suitable for adults and children alike many of which are under cover making it an ideal family holiday what ever the British weather throws at us!
York is known as a 'City of Festivals', the list is endless (google 'York Festivals' for more details). Examples include Festivals for Food and Drink, Science, Vikings, Dance, Ebor (racing) and various Christmas festivals
Attractions include : The Minster, numerous Museums (including The National Railway Museum and Castle Museums), Jorvik Centre, York Dungeon, York Ghost Tours, Horse and Cart Rides, Tour Buses and the historic city walls.
If you like shopping then York has a varied selection of designer shops and boutiques. Regular themed markets are held in the square and then at night York comes into it's own with more tourist events, bars, night clubs and eating places to suit every style and pocket

"Splendid family break in a splendid home"
Spend the half term week in York with extended family. Minster Bells was a very lovely home and had all the comforts you'd expect from your own home. A modern light and airy kitchen, a cosy living room, raised up from the street with a great view of the casual bustle of the street below, characterful bedrooms and enough bathrooms for all. We all slept really well and there was no noise from the street. Everything was clean and orderly and the kitchen had all the applicances you could need. The location was fabulous, a 5 minute walk to the Minister, and then everything else unfolding from there. This was essential for us what with a party which ranged from in age from 7 to almost 87! Would definitely recommed Minister Bells and would go back again if we have a similar gathering again.

"Can not fault it!!!"
What a fantastic house in a fantastic location. Beautiful rooms, spotlessly clean and well equipped. City centre is on the doorstep. The lights tripped when we fort there but a quick phone call to the owner and this was sorted out immediately. Only snag was if the shower was being used on the 1st floor the top floor was cold so we had to stagger showers. This however is the only negative and it really is a very small negative. all in all we had a fantastic weekend and hope to repeat it. I have already recommended this accommodation. Thank you so much.
Thank you very much for such a lovely review. I have booked a plumber to come and look at the shower/water pressure at the house to see if anything has changed. Unfortunately combi boilers can have the affect you identified in your review. However, we have deliberately got two boilers and a mix of electric/thermostatic showers at the house to ensure there is enough pressure and hot water all round. We appreciate all feedback and will do our best to rectify any problems. It would be lovely to see you again one day soon and am pleased you enjoyed the location of the house to the City. Best wishes Janet

"Great house, fantastic location... Unbeatable!"
The one thing this house has that no other holiday property has ever had for me is really really really comfortable beds, pillows and duvets. Great nights sleep had by us all! The location is second to none and the Owner Janet went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure we enjoyed our stay... Should have a 5 star rating on this property!!!

"Terrific family house"
Minster Bells is a spacious, convenient, and well-appointed house, with a very pleasant and helpful owner. Three generations of our family (aged 2 to 70+) enjoyed our long weekend there, while attending a family wedding. The house is very handy for the tourist sights, for shops (including a nearby supermarket, and restaurant) and for weddings at the Hospitium. Janet provides a most useful guide-pack to the facilities in the house, and to York in general. I would recommend Minster Bells highly.

Spent Monday to Friday at Minster Bells with 8 friends and could quite happily have stayed longer. The house is situated on a street with shops, bars, cafes all around. It is in a fantastic location to access the centre with all the shops, bars and places of interest close by. We walked to the rail station to pick up a shuttle bus to the races, but were quite warm when we arrived as it is a 15 minute walk in heels, so maybe a taxi to the races would have been better. But other than that we strolled everywhere. The house has a lovely atmosphere, it is light, airy and very clean. The kitchen is very well equipped and we spent lots of time sitting around the huge table in the kitchen, eating, drinking, chatting and laughing. The bedrooms are very comfortable with plenty of storage space and lots of mirrors and place to plug in the hairdryer, which was great for all the girls! Janet Jacobi was so helpful. I emailed her many times before our visit for information and she was always so kind, nothing was too much trouble. She also put up balloons and banners for a birthday celebration. I would certainly recommend staying at Minster Bells and should we return to York in the future, I will be ringing Janet.

"Lovely large property in a very central position."
We will always have fond memories of our stay here as this is where our daughter got ready on her wedding day. A lovely spacious house, centrally located and with it's own parking space ..albeit a bit tight if you have a large vehicle, but we managed. Communication with the owners was good and they couldn't be more helpful. I would definitely stay here again, we had a lovely stay...thank you!

"perfect for everything"
just spent a weekend with 6 friends in this lovely house,we went to celebrate my50th birthday and as a suprise my friend who made the booking had a word with janet and when we arrived janet had placed banners and balloons up in the kitchen/dining area, and also got a cake with candles, this extra special touch just made it perfect, the house itself is spotless with plenty of room for everyone,we did tend to gather in the kitchen more than the front room but that was just cos we had a couple of smokers with us and they could go outside and still be in on the conversations and laughs we were having, the bed i had was very comfortable and i had a lovely nights sleep, cant fault this place for location either, everything just a stones throw away, would definatley stay here again should we want to return to york.

"Great location, charming property and a very fun weekend"
I arranged a weekend reunion for a group of friends at Minster Bells in April. For a group on a budget it provided a great weekend away. We cooked in the well equiped kitchen on Friday evening and Saturday morning and found everything we could possibly need and a better oven than I have at home! The whole property was very well kept, simple but clean. The location is fantastic, the description as 'tottering distance' to the city centre appealed to me and I can confirm it is just that. York is a beautiful city and we had a great spot from which to explore the historic sites, shops and bars. It was also around 10 minutes walk from the train station, which made logistics for getting 8 people in and out of York very easy. The property owner was very helpful responding to all questions rapidly and she was also very understanding when we accidently left with a set of keys (now returned). I would definitely recommend Minster Bells for any large group of friends or family wanting to explore the beautiful historic city.

"Perfect family house"
House large enough to spread out. Great position for being in the center of York. Owner very helpful about details as we were coming from the States. Lovely neighborhood where everyone knew everyone. Despite very busy road it felt very "villagey "Neighbors helpful. Mama Mia's and Cafe #8 opposite great places to eat. Showers not like the ones in the States!! Initially difficult to get wi-fi but owner helped us then ok.
