Northern England region

Ellerton is built on the site of an old 12th Century Priory & it's history dates back to before the Domesday Book.

We have ancient castle mounds, a 17th Century "Oldie Worlde" Inn - we've even had Sean Bean play one of our famous ancestors in an international movie!

We hold regular Village events, such as traditional Village fetes.

Ellerton is set in a National Nature Reserve, in fact one of the most protected lands in Britain. We are only one of three sites left in Britain where where our fields and landscape still look like they would have over 1000 years ago!

York City itself is a must to visit. With the Shambles & its overhanging timber-framed houses & shops, some dating back as far as the fourteenth century. Have lunch at the world famous Bettys Tea Rooms or climb the steeple at the York Minster.

We are only 1 hour away from Scarborough beach & the spa town of Harrogate.

If you are looking to explore the Yorkshire Countryside, we are in the foothills of the Yorkshire Wolds, David Hockney country, with plenty of walks & cycle rides.

To keep the kids amused, York has plenty of attraction,s such as the Jorvik Viking Centre, or visit the largest Maize maze in England. Or perhaps the sharks at the Deep Aquarium is more their thing.

"Lovely friendly cottage"

My husband, our 3 year old and myself stayed at Priory Cottage for 3 nights at the beginning of Feb. We will definitely go back and have recommended it to our friends. It is a lovely cottage ideal for a family of 4. The bedrooms are large but still cosy. The bathrooms are also a good size. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and generally looked brand new. A lovely open fire in the lounge made the rom so cosy. TVs in every room so the kids won't get bored! There is nothing bad to say. Yes it is a bit out of the way but that is not a problem. There is a really cosy pub across the road which is open in the evenings for food (although we didnt try the food we were told that it was pretty good, We did try the wine though!) Simone and Martin who own the cottage, live next door and are absolutely lovely. They are available if you have any problems but don't intrude at all. There was also a welcome food pack on our arrival and a special little surprise for our 3 year old. Thank you for a lovely stay in a lovely cottage.

"Perfect weekend at perfect Priory Cottage"

We have just returned from a wonderful weekend at Priory Cottage with my 17 month old daughter. The cottage is located in a lovely little village and provides a unique blend of serenity while being in close proximity to York city centre for all the shops and restaurants. Within the village would highly recommend dinner and a drink at the Boot and Shoe Inn located opposite the cottage, lovely food and a warm welcome.
Priory cottage is immaculately clean, spacious and the log fire was so cosy! All facilities are there, everything is so well thought out. The cottage not only provides the essentials but also some thoughtful touches which made us feel right at home- the welcome food hamper was packed with gorgeous homemade jam, bread and free range eggs. The delight on my daughters face when she found a letter from the Priory fairies was magical, a personal touch that went a very long way!
Overall I would highly recommend this beautiful cottage for a truly relaxing break. We were made so welcome and will find it hard to beat in the future. Will definitely return!

"Absolutely fantastic in every way"

I would recommend this cottage without reservation. we were there in February and the weather outside was cold. The cottage was warm and the open fire an added bonus.the cottage was exactly as pictured and described in the literature. The owners were very helpful and the welcome package was wonderful. The welcome that was afforded our dog was the very best we have ever experienced, with treats, and towels just for her. The pub over the road was wonderful and very welcoming, we ate there twice in the 3 days we were there. my family and myself would definitely go back and recommend.
