"Relaxing and luxurious but not particularly baby friendly""

We had a lovely relaxing week in the beautiful village of Westow. The cottage was spacious and incredibly comfortable and clean and we particularly appreciated the plasma TV in our bedroom! We booked this cottage through "babyfriendly boltholes" and as we were travelling with a 1 year old and a 4 year old we were expecting a very safe haven so that we could kick back and relax without having to worry about the kids. However this wasn't the case. Our one year old kept thinking that the metal blind cords were necklaces so that meant we couldn't let her upstairs at any point on her own as it felt like a serious accident waiting to happen. We also had to spend 10 minutes when we arrived removing various glass vases out of reach of small children and this was also the case with cleaning products in a low cupboard in the kitchen and the dirty metal implements placed next to both of the fireplaces. Luckily we had brought a sack of our own toys with us as unlike other "babyfriendly boltholes" properties that we have stayed in before, there were no toys provided and the boardgames were for children aged 7 years and above. The garden was also much smaller than it looked in the photos and due to the steep concrete steps we constantly had to be within very short range of the kids. The children like us did thoroughly enjoy their week at Yew Tree Cottage and although the weather was rather cold and wet we had some wonderful day trips to Whitby, Dalby Forest, the Railway Museum in York and the local swimming pool in Norton. It is definitely a beautiful part of the country that we look forward to returning to in the future.

"Beautiful, well equipped cottage"

My husband and I and our 3 and 6 year old boys stayed for a week in July and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, helped by a week of glorious weather. The cottage is immaculately presented. We made use of the sofa bed so that the boys could have a bedroom each. The garden is a decent size and well maintained, and the excellent Weber BBQ a huge bonus.

We're not the type of people who do the same thing repeatedly, but we did have dinner 3 times at the Blacksmiths Arms Inn (2 doors down the road) because it was so good!

Well located for seeing the sights of the North York Moors and we had a couple of trips into York which is a beautiful city just to wander - plus there's excellent shopping including a Mulberry factory store :-)

All in all an excellent holiday.

Thanks again to Natasha and Paul for a wonderful week.

"Lovely Cottage, Great Location"

We spent the May half term in this lovely cottage. Natasha was great to deal with and gave us excellent directions, plus details of things to do in the surrounding area. There was a lovely welcome hamper waiting for us which was a really nice touch.
The cottage is in a quiet village but is close to plenty of tourist attractions. We reached most places we visited within 30 mins.
The kids (5 and 2 years) loved the cottage, we had to move a few breakables out of the little one's reach but he behaved himself and everything was still intact when we left. The cottage is equipped with everything you need, even DVD's and boardgames. The only thing I would say is that the garden is raised (there are a few stone steps up to the grass) and the kids were drawn to walking along the wall surrounding it, which meant they had to be supervised closely at all times. All in all it was a lovely stay and we will definitely return.

"Wonderful Cottage - Wish it was mine!"

Our second stay at Yew Tree Cottage and just as great as the first.
The owners really have an eye for decoration, it feels so cosy and homely.
Great Location, near to York but still in a lovely small village with a fantastic pub on the door step (if your visiting the pub for food at the weekend remember to book!).
We leave Yew Tree Cottage already planning our next visit.
We will definitely be back.

"Beautiful cottage"

We had a 4 night break at the cottage and had a lovely time. The cottage was well presented and very homely. Nice decoration and everything you need for a comfortable stay. The welcome package was very handy and would be needed if you didn't take anything with you as there is no shop in the village.

We ate in most nights but did go to the Blacksmiths Arms once. Whilst the food was enjoyable the service was far to fast and we felt very rushed (Starters cleared and mains delivered at the same time).

Westow is perfectly located to explore the area. We went to York and used the park and ride which I would recommend if going into York. About a 10 minute drive away. The National Railway Museum is worth a trip. Free entry and impressive even to me who is not interested in trains.

Whitby about an hours drive away is lovely but gets very busy so worth getting there early.

"Gorgeous cottage in a very quiet village with a fabulous pub restaurant"

Loved staying here. It was in a really quiet village with nothing more than a pub which cooked the most delicious home cooked food. There was a really lovely childrens playground which we just loved for our little two year old in the village. The cottage is so child friendly, stair gate, highchair, cot, plastic crockery and cups. We absolutely loved it and so did our two year old. He kept saying "see tiny house AGAIN" but it was far from tiny! It was really spacious, massive master bedroom with gorgeous decoration. A huge second bedroom and a nice third bedroom with sofa bed or in our case a cot. The living area was really clean, spaious and tastefully decorated. Go there! You won't be disappointed. If you like peace and quiet then you will love the village of Westow too.

"Beautifully furnished, well-equiped cottage that's safe for small children"

Lovely cottage, beautifully furnished, but still safe for small children. We stayed with a 2 year old and 8 month old, who is crawling, and it met all our needs. We were pleasantly surprised at how spacious the rooms were. A nice quiet location too, and well connected for local attractions.
