About this location
The Yorkshire region
York is an ideal centre from which to explore the Dales and the North York Moors. The Vale of York itself is ideal cycling country; largely flat, with lots of quiet back roads.
York is full of history, having been a settlement at least since the time of the Romans. York Minster is one of the great cathedrals of the world, and dates from 1220. There are many museums, including the Castle Museum with its famous Victorian Street, and the popular Jorvik Viking Centre.
