Northern England region

The geology of North Yorkshire is closely reflected in its landscape. Within the county are the North York Moors and most of the Yorkshire Dales; two of eleven areas of countryside within England and Wales to be officially designated as national parks. Between the North York Moors in the east and the Pennine Hills in the west lie the Vales of Mowbray and York. The Tees Lowlands lie to the north of the North York Moors and the Vale of Pickering lies to the south. Its eastern border is the North sea coast.

The Yorkshire dales and Harrogate has a host of stately homes full of art and treasures, visit Ripley Castle one of the first castles to be built in stone and still home to the Ingilby family today.

Marton-cum-Grafton is ideally located to visit the medieval city of York and explore the ancient 'shambles' with individual boutiques, or York Minster. Leeds is also a short distance with many shops including Harvey Nichols and the Victoria Quarter. Or drop into Betty's tea shop in Harrogate for an unforgettable experience.

There are so many great days out, stuff to do. Things to see. Inside, outside, and sometimes free!

York

Marton-cum-Grafton is an idyllic Yorkshire village located within the Harrogate district of North Yorkshire, England. It is situated approx 15 miles(24K) north west of the city of York and 6 miles (9.7K) north east of the market town of Knaresborough and 3 miles (5K) south of Bouroghbridge.

The village pub is two minutes walk from the cottages and is a sixteenth century inn which still retains many of its original features www.thepunchbowlmartoncumgrafton.com

The village is steeped in history dating back to the doomsday book. The locals are true friendly Yorkshire folk, there are often events on at the village hall. You will find a well stocked shop and post office in the village.

The web site www.marton-cum-grafton.org gives details of what's happening, and when, in the village (including the open gardens in the summer months) and there is also a local history group which has its own web site which might be of interest to you.www.martoncumgraftonhistory.com

An ideal location to enjoy the beauty of the local landscape and places of interest, with activities for all of the family, including walks and cycling, and some of the best country pubs and restaurants around.

"Perfect for two couples."

Stayed with our two young children. Cottage is lovely and well equipped but we felt more suitable for two couples than a family. Lovely kitchen but nowhere to store any food as all the cupboards are f… More

"Beautiful cottages in a stunning location."

Both cottages are stunning with up to date and comfortable furnishings. Cosy and warm for a winter weekend getaway. Owner left us eggs, bread, milk and butter which was a nice touch. Baths and showers are great. Local pub is really nice with fantastic food. Would definitely stay here again. Chickens are very friendly too (even though they did peck my feet!) cottages are very secure which would be great for families with young children.

"Perfect weekend break."

We stayed in the Stables and it was so cosy and warm when we first arrived. It was a lovely touch to find eggs, milk, butter, orange juice, and bread for us to use. The place was extremely clean and everything was so comfortable especially with the underfloor heating....we had to force ourselves out to visit York and Harrogate.

The fixtures and fittings are of top quality. The cottage is modern but homely set in lovely private surroundings with a chicken coup to collect your own eggs. The village has a lovely pub (The Punch Bowl) and also its own book exchange set in a red phone box!

We definately recommend this and will certainly going back again.
