Carpenter's Cottage, in the centre of the historic market town of Pocklington, is within walking distance of shops, restaurants, pubs, arts centre, cinema, sports centre and Burnby Hall gardens. It is the perfect base for walking or cycling in the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds or for visiting the many attractions in the nearby medieval city of York.

Underfloor heating and a wood burning stove make the cottage cosy and comfortable all year round. There is utility room with washing machine/tumble dryer - handy for walking and cycling holidays in all weathers. Items of handcrafted wooden furniture and fittings add to the cottage's charm. Situated in the grounds of the owner's home, the cottage has its own private courtyard, off-road parking and secure cycle store; and you are very welcome to share the owners' large garden.

The cottage is well-equipped for self catering and we supply pepper and salt, tea, coffee, sugar, and a pint of milk to get you started. You are a short walk from a number of good bakeries, delicatessens, butchers, greengrocers and supermarkets. If you prefer to eat out, then Pocklington has cafés and restaurants to suit all tastes.

Northern England region

Pocklington is an attractive small market town nestling at the foot of the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds: the landscape that inspires the work of artist David Hockney. Popular with walkers and cyclists, Pocklington is an excellent base for exploring the surrounding countryside via the many nearby footpaths and and cycling routes - details of which you will find in the cottage. The town is friendly and bustling particularly on a weekend or market day (Tuesday) and has everything you could need in terms of shops, cafes, restaurants and the arts, and all within a short walk from your door.

York

The medieval walled city of YORK is a 13 mile drive west of Pocklington. With its famous Minster, castle, museums and the beautifully preserved half timbered buildings of the Shambles, York is a fabulous day out - and, as our guests have found, the cottage is a lovely place to return to after a day of sightseeing.

Travelling east and north from Pocklington, you will encounter typical East Riding market towns and villages, including the historic County town of Beverley with its own Minster and two market squares. Heading towards the east coast, you may like to visit the village of Burton Agnes with its beautiful Hall and gardens. On the coast itself there are the famous fishing and resort towns of Bridlington, Filey, Scarborough and Whitby.

"A cosy and very comfortable cottage in an ideal location"

We had a very pleasant stay in this pretty cottage: we found it very cosy, comfortable and clean, and well equipped, with everything we needed to cook a hearty breakfast before our walk! It's close to the town centre of Pocklington, which has several shops, pubs and restaurants, but also we could walk out of town into the countryside very quickly, so the location was ideal.
