The Apartment in York is a very comfortable, perfectly situated holiday retreat offering many little extras to make it feel like home. An easy 5 minute walk (10 minute stroll) to the City Centre and York's superb attractions, shops and many restaurants.

The Apartment is on the first floor in the peaceful and secure Bishops Wharf development, alongside the River Ouse. Access to York's city wall is literally on your doorstep, as is the waterside (there are 2 adult bikes available for our guests to use). The apartment comes with FREE SECURE GARAGED PARKING & FREE WIFI INTERNET ACCESS.

If travelling by train to York the station is a 10 minute walk from the apartment (2 minutes in a taxi). If you bring the car you can leave it in the garage for the whole stay if you like as most local site seeing and restaurant visiting can be done very easily on foot.

You can take a scenic stroll (or cycle) along the riverside to beautiful Rowntree park ( 5 minutes walk) and the racecourse beyond - there are two bikes to borrow. Also provided are a travel cot and high chair, books, a few toys & games inc games console, DVDs, CDs and CD player with Ipod connector.

The apartment has an entry phone and lobby, a comfortable lounge with two sofas and dining area with French patio doors leading to a furnished balcony where you can sit out and watch boats cruise along the river. A well equipped kitchen includes full size dishwasher, microwave, electric cooker and hob, fridge and freezer. Housekeepers operate a 24hr collect and deliver laundering service and there are ironing facilities within the apartment. There are 2 bedrooms which will accommodate up to 4 people all in very comfortable beds.

The master bedroom has a high quality back-care King size bed for a comfortable nights sleep, with fitted wardrobes, dressing table, radio-alarm clock and hairdryer. The second bedroom has single/twin or King size configuration beds, fitted wardrobe and side table, all bed linen and towels are hotel quality, professionally laundered and inclusive in the cost of your stay. The bathroom has a bath, shower and bath towels supplied.

York is surrounded by three National parks making it an excellent base for exploring the local countryside, including the windswept North York Moors, Yorkshire coastal towns like Whitby and Scarborough and the picturesque Yorkshire Dales, all within easy reach.


York is packed with Viking, Roman, Saxon and Georgian heritage. You can see much by walking around the City walls with amazing views of the Minster, Yorks’ architecture and its 2000 years of history.

The city's iconic landmark is York Minster, the largest medieval cathedral in England and the seat of the Archbishop of York. There are other fine medieval churches in the city of York, all well worth exploring.

If you enjoy culture as much as history then you’ll be spoilt for choice with the many world class museums and attractions. The famous National Railway Museum has the Flying Scotsman engine and the Japanese Bullet train amongst its exhibits and the Castle Museum has its own recreation of a Victorian street with cobbles and original shop fittings.

York plays host to a full calendar of events. Year round you’ll find street entertainment, concerts, historical re-enactments, York racing events, entertaining guided walks, ghost tours, and boat trips on the River Ouse, the Christmas market is also a real treat. Most sight seeing can be easily done on foot or from the top deck of one of Yorks double-decker tour buses.

York has a vibrant café culture, it also has stylish riverside wine bars and old fashioned pubs and taverns serving local ales. York even has its own brewery within the City Walls. If you prefer afternoon tea you will not be disappointed, a visit to the world famous Betty’s Tea Rooms is a must!

York is also great for shopping with a mix of designer labels, independent boutiques and well known high street names. After shopping, there are a huge number of restaurants, cafes and bars to choose from. Again, you’ll be spoilt for choice with world class fine food restaurants, more traditional Yorkshire fare and informal bistros serving the best of local produce.

"Perfectly located for a family to enjoy an exploring holiday in York."

A lovely clean flat.
Very close to town and attractions.
Good variety of attractions and activities within walking distance.
No need for a car to explore.

Very glad to know that you enjoyed the quiet and convenient location of our apartment.

We were very surprised to read your comments regarding cleanliness, and would like to address issues mentioned below. It's a shame for us that you didn't contact us or speak to our housekeeper during your stay as we'd liked to have had the opportunity to show you how committed we are to keeping our guests happy, we'd have done all we could to rectify any problems quickly at the time.

We have an excellent housekeeping team and whilst we rarely receive negative feedback about cleanliness, they and we accept that our work cannot be 100% perfect every time. To encourage our guest to feel comfortable we like to have direct contact and we arrange for our housekeeper to meet every guest on arrival (this is why we don't operate a key-code/ let yourself in system). On arrival our guests are shown around and our housekeeper will always ask them to call him any time if any problems arise during their stay.

We are a bit baffled about your comment regarding stained carpets. Chris has been to the apartment today and had a very thorough check all over and there are no stains anywhere on the carpet. The carpet was brand new and fitted just 3 months ago. If we ever get stains they are spot treated as soon as guests depart and are professionally cleaned several times a year.

The bath overflow isn't broken but does show signs of corrosion (no rust or flaking). This is due to regular use and regular cleaning. Our housekeepers pay particular attention to bathroom fittings and keeping all clean and hygienic. We would however hold our hands up to a little staining on the floor grouting, slight corrosion on the bath overflow and a hairline crack in the sink which is hardly noticeable. These things are all bought about from good use and we do our best to keep the place in good shape by replenishing and renewing on a constant basis.

Our property is not 5 star and we wouldn't describe it as 'Luxurious', we aim for a good 4 star standard. With it's quiet but central location, garaged parking, free wifi, hotel quality beds and linens and other extras, we are satisfied that overall we offer good value for money.

Our rates are based on same sized 4 star properties offering the same facilities within very easy reach of the city centre.

We're sorry that our apartment didn't meet with your expectations and that you didn't contact us earlier during your stay so that we could tackle any issues or concerns at the time.

"Even better than last year"

Ever since our first stay in the Apartment in York (March 2013) we have been looking forward to going back. This year we arrived on Good Friday and were so pleased to find that nothing had changed. Actually, that's not quite true because the owners, Rachael and Rob, have made some improvements to "furniture and fittings" that reflect their commitment to offering a great holiday experience in a wonderful city.

The Apartment is spotless and fully equipped and the Housekeeper, Chris, is extremely helpful.

Look no further if you're seeking super self catering accommodation with private garage parking in York - you won't be disappointed.

Yes we've made a few improvements recently - new carpets, new TV and a bit of decorating to keep things fresh. "Comfortable accommodation and perfect location for a visit to York"

We found the apartment very comfortable and had everything to hand that we needed during our visit. The location down by the river was ideal for walking and jogging as well as being handy for the nearby shops, cafes and pubs. The short walk into the centre was also very convenient and we just needed to cross the road to get onto the closest section of the city walls. A most enjoyable stay.

"You won't find better anywhere in York"

If you're looking for a quality self catering break in York then you won't find anywhere better than "The Apartment in York." I can say this after sampling numerous flats and apartments in the City over the last 25 years.

The accommodation including rooms, furniture, crockery and linen is spotless and the whole feel is modern, light and airy. The location, close to the river bank and with access to the Walls, is incomparable and there are several different routes to walk into the City Centre which take only 10 minutes.

The garage under the property is a huge advantage and our car had its own holiday, not moving from one Friday to the next.

The whole transaction from booking to when we picked up the keys was handled both pleasantly and professionally and I would like to thank the owners Rob and Rachael and their Housekeeper Chris for their excellent efforts on our behalf.

"Superb flat in a wonderful city"

York is one of our favourite places and it deserves a property like this to savour its delights to the full. The flat is very comfortable, sophisticated and thoughtfully furnished by the very helpful owners. Its location is both peaceful and convenient for central York and is characterful as well as relaxing. From the moment we arrived we felt at home and much look forward to returning.

Just picking up on your point about a washing machine - unfortunately we didn't have quite enough space in the kitchen to plumb one in. It was a toss-up between a mini dishwasher and washing machine or a decent sized dishwasher! We made the decision to go with the full sized dishwasher as felt it would get more use. However our housekeepers provide a collect and return wash/dry service - they charge about £7 per load currently for this service and the guests arranges this directly. The apartment does have ironing and airing facilities.
