About this location

The Isle of Wight region

The Isle of Wight is situated approximately 3 miles off the English Southern Coastline. It is known for its breathtaking scenery with much of the Island being designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Island first became popular as a holiday destination during Victorian times and its unique charm still entices over 2.5 million visitors each year. It is quite easy to appreciate why the Island attracts so many, with its scenic coastline, award winning golden beaches, charming little villages and temperate climate – in fact the Island can boast more hours of sunshine than most other destinations in Britain.

For the more energetic, the Island offers over 500 miles of maintained footpaths and 200 miles of cycle ways, which makes it ideal for walkers and cyclists alike. Bicycles can be hired locally. The Islands towns offer a comprehensive range of shops and amenities including many 'High Street' names together with popular cafes, bars and restaurants - some even being awarded the 'Michelin Star'. All in all the Island is a wonderful holiday destination, catering for all ages and with activities for all interests.

Sandown became a popular seaside resort back in Victorian times and shares its bay with Shanklin. Pleasant walks along the Esplanade can be enjoyed with views across the fine golden sands of the beaches stretching over the bay to the English Channel beyond. The beach at Sandown Bay holds 'Blue Flag' status offering safe bathing and also being popular for windsurfing and water sports.

The cliffs are one of the best places in Britain for dinosaur hunters. Redcliff is made of clay and is continually eroding and changing revealing much of what is buried below. Many dinosaur bones/fossils found here are displayed in the Natural History Museum in London. Sandown also hosts one of the Islands few remaining piers offering amusements, cafe, bar, children’s play areas and designated areas for sea fishing – great for the keen sea angler! In addition, there can also be found the Isle of Wight Zoo (big cat sanctuary), Dinosaur Centre, tennis courts, putting greens, leisure complex, tea rooms and restaurants.

At night, Sandown comes to life with a variety of pubs and clubs where you can dance the night away. A great destination for a holiday with so much to do and being a perfect base from which to explore the rest of the Island...

"Excellent Property - 'home from home'"

No.6 Riviera Park at Yaverland is a fantastic chalet base for your Isle of Wight holiday. About a 15 minute lazy stroll along the beautiful coast line brings you to Sandown beach where the sand is gorgeous and the sea quite warm and safe for children.
The chalet park itself has few facilities but that suited us perfectly as it was extremely quiet - no noisy club house to disturb our evenings.
The chalet was spacious with a bedroom each for my two sons (one slept on the living room futon bed) so no arguing over what time was bed time etc.
Provided inteh chalet was absolutely everything you could think of for your holdiay - The essential kitchen stuff was all there including microwave, toaster, plenty of plates/cups/bowls etc. There was washing up liquid available on arrival and dish cloths & toilet rolls - we've never had this in self catering accomodation before. Plenty of stuff was available for use away from the chalet itself to make your stay enjoyable ie:- beach chairs, a picnic trolley, kites, buckets and spades, board games and even cuddly toys for a cuddle at bedtime. The living area had a tv, dvd's and player, cd/radio and books etc for your use on a rainy day and the bathroom had a few items to make bathing a little easier for people with disabilites.
There is absolutely no wonder at all that this accomodation has been awarded the highest award by the tourism board for it's type of accomodation - well worth the money and we hope to come and stay here again in the not too distant future.

"A comfortable, well equipped chalet suitable for families"

Although the chalet is on a site with no facilities, it is close to a lovely beach and near enough to Sandown that it doesn't matter. The chalet has been equipped with everything that you need to… More
