The Island of Malta region
The Maltese archipelago lies virtually at the centre of the Mediterranean, with Malta 93km south of Sicily and 288km north of Africa. It consists of three islands: Malta, Gozo and Comino with a total population of 400,000 inhabitants over an area of 316sq km and a coastline of 196.8km.

The rural side of the Islands is fascinating, with charming villages & captivating folklore. With 365 spectacular churches, there are more than a few highlights - the Mosta church famous for its large dome (third largest dome in Europe).

St Paul's Bay and its neighbours Bugibba and Qawra are Malta's largest, seaside resorts. They offer a variety of nightlife and leisure options. The coastline here has some wonderful open sea views and a vista across to St Paul's Island, where, according to legend, the ship carrying the Apostle is said to have been wrecked. The coastline promenade provides a long, though mostly level and easy walk from St Paul's Bay all the way to Qawra or Xemxija Bay. St Paul's Bay started life as a small fishing village. The parish church, built in 1617, was carefully restored after suffering heavy damage in World War II.
Xemxija area
Xemxija is a town on the west side of St. Paul's Bay, Malta. Xemxija (meaning sunny) is the gateway to the sandy beaches of Golden Bay to the west, and to Mellieha Bay to the north. Xemxija is a quiet resort, surrounded by Maltese countryside and some of the most fertile valleys in Malta.
By walk one can find a picturesque small fishing harbour, Hotels, Restaurants, wine bar, Pubs and Mini-Market opened 7 days a week. Nightlife, shops, cinema, casino and bars can be found in the villages of St Paul's Bay, Buġibba and Qawra, all within 5 minutes drive or by bus.
This resort is surrounded by nature, picturesque countrysides, history and traditions.
Located just a few meters from the apartment is the Xemxija Heritage Trail. A walk along this trail whilst enjoying the magnificent country side, one can see the remains of thousands of years of history that the Islands of Malta have.
A Bird Sanctuary can also be found in Xemxija.

The public bus service is a good and cheap way of getting around. Bus fares range from €0.35 to €0.58. The longest bus journey takes about fifty minutes and the average ride is between twenty and thirty minutes - www.atp.com.mt
Renting a car is a good option if one wants to reach the farthest parts of the island. Daily rates of €16 - €28. International and national driving licenses are acceptable. Driving is on the left and all road signs are in English.

"We had a wonderful time at the penthouse apartment in Xemxija Heights. It was quiet but not secluded, spacious, bright, clean & tastefully furnished, and very family/child-friendly. The terraces sported great views of the Mistra Valley & Mellieha; many of the best beaches & diving spots in Malta are minutes away by car; and the Gozo ferry in about a quarter of an hour. Parking was very convenient. Andy and Claire were extremely welcoming, helpful and friendly, responsive to questions & requests, and thoughtfully stocked the fridge, larder & toy cupboard much better than usual welcome hampers. We highly recommend it if you're after a peaceful, relaxing vacation in the Maltese Islands.
