The Valenciana region
Xativa is a very important city in Valencia namely because it is reputed to be the "city of a thousand fountains", spring water is abundant in the area and of course water means wealth and the this City oozes signs of a historic and modern wealth born from this valuable commodity.
A comprehensive folder of 'what to do' and 'where to go' guides and maps is provided
The nearest beaches are at Gandia, a 35 minute drive. The beach at Gandia is sandy, wide, clean and stretches for miles. Smaller resorts nearby also have excellent 'Blue Flag' beaches. Gandia and nearby resorts are family oriented and popular with the Spanish.
The local train to Valencia City runs every 20 minutes and takes on average 35 minutes.
The more commercial resorts of Javea, Denia, Calpe, Moraira, Benidorm are a 60 - 90 minute drive away.
There is a twice weekly market in Xativa and various fiestas throughout the year , held in the town and surrounding villages
Nearby on the outskirts of Xativa there is a new 'state of the art' sports complex with, for example, gym and tennis courts available to visitors for a nominal daily charge or try your hand at the popular local racquet sport of Padel.
Xativa is cosmopolitan but historic City, it offers a wealth of things to do and see. Your visit will show you how the Spanish live their daily life and you will enjoy real Spain, eat paella the way Spanish like it , this is not Benidorm. The local people are very friendly and welcoming, they will be pleased to assist you and practice their English language skills out on you.
There are many exciting things to do and see, the local area of Alboy, the Cova Negra , where neolithic remains have been found in a pained caves, fish or swim in the river and then take a paella lunch in the local bar under the pine tress. Visit Bocairent and explore the dozens of cave houses that have been there for hundreds of years and watch the eagles soar over head, end the day with a swim at the famous Pou Clar rock pools, icy cold spring water , but great fun jumping from the rocks in to the crystal clear water. Visit the lake at Anna and drive up to Navarres reservoir and enjoy a meat or fish lunch all cooked on wood BBQs
Dont forget the water parks and beaches of Cullera , a beautiful resort and maybe head up to the salt lakes at Albufera, here you will eat the freshest of fish in one of the many street bars and have a chance of a boat trip on the lakes.
Benidorm also offers you Terra Mitica, the famous theme park and Aqualandia the most exciting of water parks and of course if you have the energy, stay on for Benidorm Palaces evening show !.
We can also organise a day or two to an outstanding area of natural beauty and a town built mainly of cave houses, many converted to accommodation, spas or restaurants , here you can experience water rafting, water canyoning in a spectacularly beautiful location, kayaking, go karts, paint balling , mix and match whatever you fancy.
Dont forget the Moto GP at Valencia , the Valencian Grand Prix and MADRID is a bullet train journey of only 2 hours for those more far away events.
We have complied a comprehensive file of what to do whilst you are there ...........if you can bear to leave my lovely farmhouse that is !

We stayed for two weeks in the heat of August and had a brilliant holiday. The house is just outside the town of Xativa on a hillside of small farms where people grow oranges, pomegranates and other fruit. The road up to the house is narrow but not steep so fine in a hire car. The only potentially tricky bit is the hill start to come out of the driveway onto the road if you've stopped to close the gates behind you. The driveway is spacious and there's shady parking next to the house. The house itself is spacious and comfortable. The ceilings are high and the rooms are a good size. There are fans in the bedrooms but it might be worth paying the extra for airconditioning as it reached 40C for a couple of days during our stay. There's a shady terrace outside the living room with a big table. There's also a big table on the terrace by the kitchen but it was too sunny here for us to use it. A shade would be a great addition to this area to save walking back and forth through the house to eat at the other terrace. Upstairs there's a terrace with a small table which is shaded in the mornings and great for breakfast. There are neighbouring properties but you're not overlooked. A popular path for walkers and cyclists is a the front of the path but no one can look in. The path itself is great for a cloudy day or an early start if you fancy a walk. Xativa is a decent size town with lots of shops and several supermarkets and big stores such as Decathelon. It's easy to reach by a non- toll motorway. The only toll we paid was on the coast motorway to get to the waterpark at Benidorm. It makes a nice base to visit places like Valencia with its aquarium and excellent zoo. We went to the beach at Oliva (50 mins over the mountains). Nice and sandy and not too busy. We also did the scary but brilliant caves at a Bocairent and swam in the shady but chilly river. Elche is great for cheap shoes as they have lots of outlet shops. I'd highly recommend this holiday house. The only thing to look out for are the stairs. I'm 5ft 7and hit my head on the low beam which is half way up on several occasions. Also if you have toddlers, the open sides of the stairs might be a bit scary. Otherwise brilliant, especially the beautiful pool.
Thanks Ceri I am glad to read that you enjoyed your stay in Xativa. Thank you for your comments regards Sue

"Really nice villa"
We have no complaint. Villa is a very big, clean, with all facilities you need. Our kids were very happy about the pool and the big territory. We pool is suitable not only for kids ;) It's a good choice for 2 families with kids. Sue and Peter - thank you so much! It's a little bit far from sea coast.
Thank you for your comments. I dont know which coastline you visited or the route you took to get to it but Gandia and Olivia are only a 30 minute drive. Inland properties and Coastal homes are two worlds apart , we prefer to swim in the fresh water natural pools that surround this beautiful area and only visit beach resorts on rare ocassions, but equally I respect your view.

"Great place for a relaxing holiday with a superb pool and accomodation."
A very comfortable, clean and well equipped villa with a super pool. Location appx 20 minutes walk from the town, but if you have young family members (e.g under 8 and not in a pushchair) a car is essential. Plenty of places of interest to visit and a huge festival between the 15-20th August, which is an experience not to be missed. A good rail link also makes a trip into Valencia worthwhile and a trip to the Lladro workshop / museum is essential if you like fine porcelain. The property manager is also very knowledgeable about the area and extremely helpful.

Xativa is a fantastic place to spend a holiday especially if you are looking for a change from the expat resorts. Here you get a real taste of Spanish Life and Spanish party Time. I went to see the Fallas Fiesta in Valencia that was amazing, but I got more than I expected as the local town of Xativa was also holding their Fallas fiesta,so we enjoyed a full week of dancing parades and burnings of the statues and firework displays. The farmhouse villa is set on a recognised walking route which was perfect we ventured out on a great walk to a place called alboy where there was a river and typical spanish Bar set under the pine trees, very rustic, they served food and drinks really nice day. I would also recommend a trip to pau clar in Ontinyent, especially if you like rock jumping into the river, If you prefer the beech then you will need the car we visited Oliva beech which was about a 20 min drive, nice pizza restaurant on the beach. The owner of this villa is very knowledable about the area, so I suggest you ask as there is a lot more going on than we realized. Bocairent with the caves was an excellent day climbing through the cave / tunnels -getting stuck - never laughed so much. The house is really lovely and although there are other properties around which is nice as you do not feel isolated you are not overlooked at all, so once in the grounds it is very peacefull and private with lovely un-interupted views of the mountains and county side- yet the main road to town is just 10 mins walk. The house is very comfortable - large and well layed out, lovely large kitchen and cosy lounge. I am going to book again for summer 2014 when there is the Xativa fiesta and the castle which we never had time to visit this time.
Thank you for your kind comments and we are so pleased you loved the location and villa San Antonio as much as we do, we look forward to having you back !
