"Brilliant stay - lovely villa!!"
We have just returned from a 9-night stay at Zerqa. The villa is lovely - very clean, spacious and well-furnished. As a party of only 3, we were spoilt for places to sit but spent the majority of the time on the terrace by the pool which always seemed to attract the right mix of sun and shade. The pool itself was well maintained and, again, very clean. I could easily see that this would be an ideal villa for a larger group as the bedrooms/bathrooms are arranged in 'suite-type' styles which lends itself to two families and an additional couple, whilst the living areas are large enough so as not to present any problems should everyone like to spend time together.
The local shop is about 5 minutes walking distance and sold everything that we needed during our stay - although we did eat out in the square most evenings - a 10-15 minute walk with a choice of 3-4 restaurants and several cafes - our favourite was Oleanders, offering really nice food and good service in a relaxed atmosphere.
Although essentials are all within walking distance (a chemist on the way to the square and a cashpoint in the square), I would highly recommend a car for the whole stay - we hired a car only for the latter part of our stay, having intended to walk/cycle to the more local attractions/beaches and, although the distances were fine for us on paper ( no more than 2.5 miles), in practice, with the heat and the hills, it proved a little difficult. Once we had the car we visited the Azure Window, the salt pans at Marsalforn, took a boat trip from Mgarr to Comino and visited San Blas Bay (our favourite beach by far!) - all of which were within easy distance of the villa allowing plenty of time to enjoy the pool at the end of the day!
We were given plenty of points of contact should we have any problems which luckily we did not need. All staff associated with the villa have been extremely polite and helpful - so thank you to Graham, the owner, for his help throughout the booking process and to all of the staff we met - the lady who met us at the villa, Charles the pool cleaner and the cleaners who arrived shortly before our departure.
All-in-all, a lovely place to stay and I would certainly recommend it!
Thank you so much for your very kind words.

"The perfect place to stay on Gozo"
Our extended family which included five couples stayed at Il Zerqa during the first week of June and had the holiday of a lifetime. We were met in Xaghra by Charles, the caretaker who showed us the way to the house and immediately made us feel welcome. The first view of the house and the pool area in particular took our breath away. Despite the fact that there were eleven people there was plenty of space and at no time did we feel crowded. The kitchen was well equipped and ideal for coping with cooking for such a large group of people. Towards the end of our stay we did have a problem with blocked drains in one of the bathrooms (not surprising considering the use it got) but Charles sorted it out immediately. The bar-b-que area got great use and there was nothing so pleasant as cooking and eating on the kitchen terrace in the warmth of the evening. The view from the house overlooking the valley and all the way to the sea was breathtaking.
Everything that is said about the house on the website is correct. The walk into the square takes no more than fifteen minutes. The town of Xaghra is delightful. One of the highlights of our visit was eating dinner on the rooftop terrace of The Olympic restaurant in the square. The food was great, the service was friendly and the view of the square was enchanting. We were present for the 7th June national holiday and witnessed a religious procession through the town to celebrate one of the defining events of Malta's modern history in 1919. It felt like a huge privilege to be there.
Xaghra is a wonderful location from which to explore Gozo. We swam in the Mediterranean in the Inland sea, Marsalforn and Xlendi Bay. The boat trip to view the Azure window from the sea is well worth it. If you're into archaeology the nearby temple complex of Gigantija is an amazing sight to behold. To think its one of the oldest buildings in the world. My only regret is that we did not get to see all of the archaeology on the island of Malta also but I comfort myself with the promise of a return visit.
I would have no problem in recommending Il Zerqa to anyone who is considering it for their holiday accommodation. We will definitely stay there again.
Thank you so much for lovely review. We are absolutely delighted with it and we will be very happy to welcome you once again.

"Be careful - check first"
First of all, the good news - this villa is just as described in the details, it is in a great location quite close to Xaghra centre, and the photos are accurate. If you are thinking of staying here, … More
Thank you for your review and the positive comments regarding the villa which certain tilt the balance on the positive side. As you said, the caretaker is very helpful and sorted out the minor issues on the day they were reported such as the wifi which was out of order for a few hours and fixed the broken lamp which fell after trying to knot up balloons onto it. Unfortunately, on the day prior to your departure, there was a blockage in the drains of the small toilet near the terrace. I sincerely apologise for this and assure you that the simple blockage has been cleared. The temporary solution offered by Victor, not to use one of the 5 bathrooms on the last day, may not have been totally adequate but unfortunately as I explained in our correspondence ( since we never had any conversation ), toilet drains do get blocked especially if all sorts of things are thrown into it, accumulate and create a blockage. To be fair, we all live in houses and something always crops up within the realm of the home.
Thank you and regards

"Spectacular - great location - would def stay here again"
This place is amazing and the service we received was great. When we arrived at the airport we had arranged for the caretaker of the property to meet us in the town and we followed him, in our hire cars, to the villa. First impressions were wow! this place is huge! It is a beautiful house with plenty of space. It is well kept and clean. There bbq area was really lovely and we ate in the outside dining space almost every night. The pool was clean and well maintained. The location is great. Xaghra (pronouned Shara) is the local town, about 10 minutes walk. It is a quaint old town. We stayed in the town during their annual festa where the local saint is celebrated in an elaborate fashion. Ramla bay, the best sandy beach on the island, is 10 mintues away in the car. From this base it is very easy to get all over the island by car. The kitchen is massive too so plenty of space to prepare meals. The only negative is that there is no cafetiere to make fresh coffee. There is a table tennis table which we made good use of and plenty of spaces to sit and chill out away from the sun. The views are amazing. You can see the church and lots of farms. To sum up, if you are looking to holiday with friends or several families this place is perfect!
Thank you very much for your kind review. It was a pleasure. Graham

"The Best Farmhouse On Gozo"
This is the third year I have been organising group holidays with friends to Gozo. It has all the beauty of Malta without the crowds of tourists. This year we stayed at Zerqa, and as always it is a bit nervy entering a new place knowing you've spent all your friends money based on a few photos. But as we walked in, we fell in love. The Farmhouse is more like a villa for the rich and famous, with nice artwork and glass vases.
The views of the sea from the sundeck by day and the purples of the sky at dusk are priceless. We had a really nice man, Victor, who looked after the place. He ensured the pool was cleaned and the house was in order.
We were a group of 12 and it never felt like a squeeze. There are lots of places to lose yourself if you want some quiet time, and there are big tables to eat if you want, as we did, to sit around eating fresh fish on the barbecue, drinking local wine and talking for hours.
We were lucky enough to see the local festa in Xhagra. The church was lit up and the people sang and put on events each night. Best of all was the short drive to my favourite spot, Ramla bay.
I will certainly choose this farmhouse in the future. The owner is polite and honest and treated us well throughout our stay. So much so, I thought I should review it to encourage others to attend.
Thank you very much for your kind review. It was a pleasure. Graham
