The East Anglia region

The Catherderal city of Norwich is only 7 miles away and the sandy beaches of the east coast can be found at Sea Palling, Cromer, Winterton-On-Sea, and Great Yarmouth, the nearest only 25 minutes by car.

Wroxham

Belaugh is a small hamlet in a conservation area within the Norfolk broads situated between the broadland villages of Wroxham and Coltishall.

An ideal setting for those that are wishing to enjoy a peaceful location with bird watching, cycling, walking, boating, and fishing opportunities. Cycling and walking trail details and information can be obtained from the tourist information centre in Wroxham. Also in Wroxham is a good choice of day boat hire centres for those wishing to explore the Rivers Bure and Ant and nearby broads.

Wroxham, known as the Capital of the Broads, is 3-4 minutes drive by car with Roys of Wroxham, "the worlds biggest village store", with waterside cafes, restaurants, shops, the Bure Valley Steam Railway, mainline train station into Norwich, several banks, a butchers, fresh fish shop and a decent fishing tackle shop. All this is supported by ample free parking. Visitors of all ages will also enjoy a visit to Wroxham Barns, where giftware, country foods, rose and plant centre, junior farm and funfair as well as craft studios and restaurant combine in one location. Why not take the children to BeWILDerwood Adventure Park with its tree houses, zip wires, jungle bridges and boat trips, which all combined makes a great day.

In the opposite direction to Wroxham is Coltishall. A very pleasant countryside walk, will take you on the Belaugh to Coltishall footpath, through the meadow adjacent to the river, where you will find a village shop and several pubs - two of which offer undoubtably the best eating within the broads. Take a look at the footpath here: www.coltishall.org.uk/?page=10924

The seaside resorts of Great Yarmouth, Cromer, Sea Palling, Sheringham and Winterton on Sea offer sandy beaches and family entertainment. Sheringham also has a National Trust parkland with over 700 acres where you can enjoy walking and cycling and maybe finish off with a cream tea in the visitors centre.

Alternatively, spend a day in the fine city of Norwich, 8 miles, with its Norman cathedral, castle, museums, and theatres. Norwich also offers a vast array of cafes and shops, and it boasts open air markets. National Trust properties well worth visiting are Felbrigg Hall and Blicking Hall.

Golf can be found at Sprowston Hall.

"Peaceful, relaxing, and extremely comfortable riverside retreat"

As retired couple with a dog we really appreciated being able to book a mid-week to mid-week stay so that we could be joined for a long weekend by our son, daughter-in-law and their16 month old daughter. We wanted a peaceful riverside location to enjoy some fishing before the close season, but be reasonably close to shops, other amenities and attractions that the area has to offer. As we know the Broads area very well, we knew that this house in Belaugh would meet our requirements, being only a few minutes drive from either the busy centre of Wroxham or the Norwich park & ride facility for at Sprowston and perhaps only 25 minutes or so from the coast.

What we didn't know, other than suggested from the info on the web-site, was the quality of accommodation provided by Kareela; this was absolutely first-class and considerably exceeded our expectations. It was cosy and warmly welcoming - tea, coffee, milk & sugar available on arrival was a nice touch, the wine in the fridge a very nice surprise and the complimentary daily newspaper showed that the owner's cared about their guests. The house & garden were very 'dog friendly' - a bowl of water was available outside the conservatory doors - and a number of options for dog-walking from the lanes locally to a gentle stroll across the meadows to Coltishall.

We liked the arrangement of the accommodation in the house; the downstairs bedroom, shower room and separate toilet making it attractive for limited mobility guests to avoid the stairs should they wish.

Communication with the owners prior to our stay was excellent, and no question or request was too trivial for them to respond to. Rob was particularly tolerant with questions about fishing matters, and while numerous fish were caught during the week including the pike that was the real reason my son really came for the weekend, the big ones eluded us (lack of skill, not lack of advice!).

The weather was kind to us all week and so we were outdoors, or in the conservatory, for much of the time; this meant we did not need to resort to the many indoor entertainment options that would be of real value on rainy days - the many and varied board games, the library of DVD programmes, the Xbox and its library of games, the TV (BT vision) and of course the free WiFi.

It was a real pleasure to see (and hear), whilst out dog-walking or fishing: chaffinches, goldfinches, pheasants, kingfishers, various geese and a cormorant; a real antidote to suburban life. The only very slight issue was the narrowness of the road on which the house is situated - it really is a single track road - fortunately it is used only by those living in the hamlet and not many stand-offs occurred.

The Visitor information book was comprehensive and helpful; we took advantage of some of the recommendations such as the beach at Waxham and the very dog friendly 'Recruiting Sergeant' in Horstead. For us, though, no visit to Wroxham/Hoveton is complete without: shopping in Roys, buying Norfolk smoked bacon at Massingham Bros butchers, a visit to the tackle shop and fish and chips from Ken's by the Bridge.

In summary, full marks all round. No hesitation in recommending this to anyone looking for a peaceful, relaxing stay in extremely comfortable surroundings and wanting a spot of very convenient fishing. We will definitely be planning a return and know that to secure our favoured time early booking will be essential.

We are delighted to hear you had such an enjoyable week and really pleased that you also had some nice weather to enjoy the outdoors.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write such a comprehensive review and we look forward to welcoming you back anytime soon.

Thank you

"A wonderful holiday, excellent accommodation"

Well the weather helped but we spent the most wonderful, relaxing week at Kareela. The location is fabulous, from coffee in the mornings to a glass of wine in the evenings, we really enjoyed sitting by the river and watching the world (or hire boats) go by. The house was spotlessly clean and we were able to make it a home from home for our week there. Lots of small fish caught from the end of the garden. Fantastic recommendations in the info pack for places to visit and good quality lunches out. Very dog friendly. Excellent communication from Rob and Sian before and during our stay.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review, we are delighted that you enjoyed your week and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Thnak you

"Superb Relaxing Long Weekend in a Perfect Location on the River"

This was my second trip to the house, I loved it so much the first time round I decided to revisit a year later, once again it was superb. This time travelling with friends (previously with family). We had a fantastic long weekend at Kareela. The house was even better than I remembered. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything we needed and more. The lounge and bedrooms were very comfortable and the second shower being very useful for 4 people all wanting to get ready at the same time. We made the most of the stunning garden and conservatory, spending most daylight hours in these areas.
We visited both the Recruiting Sergeant and the Kings Head Coltishall for dinner, both recommended especially the Recruiting Sergeant!! I can also recommend the beautiful walks at Holkham (Deer Park and Beach Walk).
We all enjoyed our stay and are hoping to revisit again later this year.

Thank you very much for sparing the time to review our property, we really appreciate your feedback. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your 2nd stay at Kareela and look forward to welcoming you back in future.

"Well equipped house in idyllic setting - ideal restful holiday location"

We had a fantastic week staying in Kareela. The owners were extremely helpful prior to the holiday, suggesting dog friendly places to visit and eat. We visited many of their recommendations and were never disappointed. On their recommendation, we also hired a day boat from Boulter Marine, which we moored at the bottom of the garden! We used this most days, doing all our grocery shopping in Wroxham by boat! The house was well equipped and comfortable, with a beautiful garden and conservatory. It had the added bonus of Wifi and free daily paper delivered each morning. The dogs enjoyed the garden, the walk from the house to Coltishall as well as the local beaches. A wonderfully restful weeks' holiday (from 17 year old to 70 year old!)

Thank you very much for your feedback. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay and that our recommendations stood up to scrutiny. Good to hear that you took full advantage of having a boat tied up at the end of the garden and that you found the free wifi and newspaper a bonus.
We look forward to welcoming you back in future. Many thanks.

"Beautiful riverside setting, quiet and peaceful"

We enjoyed a lovely week that was booked for my father's 80th birthday. There were 7 of us in total including 2 children. The house was and well situated for visiting the Broads ,Norwich and the coast. It had everything that we needed and was very comfortable and was more spacious than we imagined. The owners were very helpful and responded to our booking very quickly. If there was a down side it would only be that due to the unseasonable weather a couple of us were cold at night. All in all we had a great time and would not hesitate in coming back if we were to holiday in Norfolk again.

Thank you for sending through your feedback. We're glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay for a special celebration. We strive to provide a comfortable place for our guests and we were sorry to hear that some aspects did not meet your expectations. Following our telephone conversation with you to understand your comments, we are pleased that you would still recommend our house to your friends and would definitely choose to stay again when in Norfolk.

"Excellent as usual"

This is our 2nd visit and it didn't disapoint.
The pubs, takeaways and restauraunts in Coltishall are very good and the fishing is excellent.
The owner facilitated the launching of our own boat and the ability to keep it at the bottom of the garden extremely convenient.
All in all excellent.

Welcome back. Glad that your holiday was as enjoyable as last year and the boat launching was as easy. Week already booked for next year and we have added a few extra comforts that we hope you will enjoy. See you next year
