This is one of many stays at Knolton Mill for us now as a "mature" couple and before as a family. We have never stayed in June and I suggest it is simply even more beautiful in this abundant and verdant month. The scent of wild garlic wafts in through the car as you drive down the bumpy track. The ferns are just uncoiling, the stream babbles, and there are so many wild flowers. The dogs yelp with excitement from the back seat, I'm sure they remember where we are heading. The first things they do is to dive into the stream and rush around barking. They do eventually calm down! The cottage is welcoming and oozes stories of old and those in the making. Once you have explored the extensive grounds, said hello to the Green Man, and had a cup of tea, and a sleep, an adventure into the woods is a must, and for a good hours' energetic walk, follow the river Dee, through meadow, and woodland, ( more dog swims along the way) and by the wier, to the Cross Foxes at Overton. Sleep is deep at Knolton Mill, and dreams are vivid as your mind surrenders and stops controlling. We curl up by the log burner in the evening and read and eat interesting Welsh local goods purchased from Stans' independent supermarket. (Stans is astonishingly good.) On warm evenings we ate superb meat bought from a lovely butcher in Llangollen cooked on a home built wood fire in a designated area in the garden. During this recent stay we ventured out far to climb Snowdon ( 1.5 hours drive away), that was tough but well worth it, and a day in Chester, and to the Berwyn Hills. We also like to visit the amazing aqueduct at Trefor near Llangollen. A final evening meal at The Cross Foxes was delish. Today at work my thoughts were still in the hills. |

It is a lovely cottage which feel like home from the moment we arrived. It has a very well equipped kitchen and lots of books and games. The outdoor space is amazing! There is sheltered space as well as open space which is useful with the English weather. We spent most evenings outside listening to the stream with the beautiful smell of lavender. Definately a great place to stay. |

It is not very often that you arrive somewhere and feel completely at home - in fact having Knolton MIll Cottage as your home would be fantastic! What a gorgeous cottage that oozes charming from every corner. The grounds are superb and I can not find any words to fault the place. It has everything you need and more. We feel very lucky to have found this place and we will look forward to our return there, some day soon. Many thanks for letting us stay. |
