The 4* Granary Holiday Cottage
About the home
The 4* Granary Holiday Cottage is situated in the stunning Royal Gloucestershire Cotswolds, Nr Badminton.
Rose & Farmer John warmly welcome you to the real Cotswold Countryside! The 4 star, Cotswold stone built, Granary Holiday Cottage is situated on our 660 acre, REAL working dairy farm, in the depths of the Royal Gloucestershire Cotswolds.
In a beautiful location, (in fact we are in a designated 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty'), but we are just 7 & 8 miles respectively, from both the M4 & M5 motorways, (Under 2 hours from both London & Birmingham!), the Granary offers rural seclusion but with amenities close by, (there is a Village Shop, 3 Pubs, 2 Farm Shops & a Post Office all within a quarter of a mile of the Granary! ).
The holiday cottage, converted in the 70's from the former cheese rooms and granary of Farmer John's Great-Grandfather, was fully re-furbished in 2011, offering 4 star comfort set in a truly rural idyll. Ideal for Family & Couples Holidays, Romantic Get Aways, Walking/Hiking Holidays, Short Breaks and just for sitting back, relaxing and drinking in the amazing views! Because of our position, perched on the edge of the Cotswold escarpment, the Granary enjoys stunning panoramic views of a falling vista to the Severn vale below, rising to the Welsh Hills 60 miles beyond!

Dining & Shopping at the Granary. Lovettswood Farm is situated between 2 villages, Hillesley & Hawkesbury Upton, both are under half a mile away from the Granary Cottage. The village of Hillesley has one pub, the very attractive Fleece Inn, which serves lovely local food at reasonable prices and is ideal to stroll to from the Granary! Hawkesbury Upton village has 2 pubs. The Beaufort Inn, which serves traditional English Pub Grub & The Fox Inn, which serves Italian Cuisine. Hawkesbury also has a village shop, a post office and a farm shop. Although the same distance from the Farm as Hillesley, Hawkesbury Upton is reached by a trek up a near vertical hill! But good for the waist line and of course downhill all the way back! The nearby Bodkin Country Inn serves fine food & wine as does The Hare & Hounds Hotel and The Snooty Fox Hotel. The nearest supermarket, a Co-op, is 4 miles away in the picturesque town of Wotton-Under-Edge, as is a Tesco express with late night opening. The nearest hypermarket, a Tesco, is in the not so pretty shopping centre of Yate, 8 miles away. Remember, you can always do an on-line shop and have it delivered to Lovettswood Farm after your arrival time! You won't be disappointed with the warm country welcome at The 4* Granary!

A SELECTION FROM OUR EXCELLENT GUEST BOOK….
Thank you for all the extras that made the cottage so comfortable. Travelling with a small baby - we were not sure what facilities there would be - we need not have worried - and next time (There will be a next time). we wont need to pack so much! We had a lovely break here, our first family holiday since J was born (10 weeks old). We are looking forward to returning in the spring/summer, as there is so much to see that we didn't have time for. Thanks once again, N, S & J P Nov 2012
What a wonderful place to spend our 10th Wedding aniversary! The cottage is so warm and welcoming, just like its owners! We have been to some very pretty villages & bigger towns. I've found some wonderful fabric shops & wish I could take them all back home with me.Oh well, guess I'll just have to come again! Thank you so much for making this trip so special, even the milking we will never forget! We will be sure to bring the children, I'm sure they & Archie would get on like a house on fire! October 2012
Dear Rose & John, Well if you put a gun to my head demanding me to criticize anything at the Granary you'd just have to pull the trigger. Everything was perfect!! Also thank you both for the wonderful history of this farm, thoughtful and intersting. Thank you for the wine & chocolates. Hope we can come back soon. B & B H Bucks October 2012
'We have had a lovely relaxing week at the Granary. We have slept well, visited beautiful villages and countryside, and eaten well on local produce. Holly the dog paid us regular visits for the odd naughty treat, and is now our best friend! Rose & John have been truly welcoming and have provided us with a lovely, cosy, clean cottage that we have loved staying in. We would certainly stay again in the future. J & C. UK. 2011
We have enjoyed a very comfortable week in this lovely farm cottage, cosy with all mod cons! The surrounding area is beautiful, lots of great walks and villages to explore. Many thanks to Rose & Farmer John for helping us out, we look forward to returning again in the future. The M Family London
We had a lovely time in your cottage. Our daughter love watching the baby cows and she made new friends with Holly the black dog and the cat. Lovely view from the kitchen window towards the hills. The cottage is lovely and fully equipped; all you might need is there! We've seen many things, but there is still a lot to explore left, maybe for next time. Many thanks for your hospitality and your explanation about the farm. Thanks and a kiss for Holly. J, D & C. Holland
We have had a fab time in the 'cosy cottage'; it is in a wonderful location, very well equipped and very spacious for a holiday cottage. We all enjoyed our tour round the Dairy with John. Really enjoyed our stay. Thank you. The K Family Norfolk. 2011
We have spent a lovely week at the cottage. We were made very welcome by Rose, John & 'Holly' and loved seeing the cows and the farm. We have visited lots of places in the area and really enjoyed Tetbury and Bourton-on-the-Water, and National Trust properties. Congratulations on getting your 4* rating, it is well deserved. We wish you all the best with your new venture. J & D. West Sussex. 2011

An excellent holiday at Lovettswood Farm. I have thoroughly enjoyed my short time here. The area is a beautiful one and there is so much to see and do. I never imagined I would be so lucky with the weather - a heat wave, no less. G W. Cornwall Oct 2011
'What a warm welcome we received on arrival at the Granary! The Cottage looked cosy and inviting, the Christmas tree, twinkling in the corner, was an extra touch which added to our delight. What more could we want! We went to the coast; to Clevedon. Where a brisk walk along the pier set us up for lunch at 'Five the beach'...........We really enjoyed our stay at the Granary and would like to thank Rose & John for making our short stay extra special. Thank you. C & P Glossop, Derbyshire
Had a fantastic stay away from the stresses and strains that policing in London can bring. Weather fab, cottage warm and welcoming! Rose is a great host and thanks for everything. Fabulous meal at Bodkin House and a great pint down at the Fleece. Will be coming back at some stage I'm sure. S & A. 2012 London.
We knew it was going to be a treat to stay here, but little did we know how great a treat! Our eyes could hardly believe what we saw as we approached! And the cottage didn't fail either. It is so well appointed and comfortable. And the views out of the windows are so inspiring. Thanks for providing a truly delightful place in the Cotswold's--away from the crowds. A & K from USA 2012
We've had a wonderful week here away from the rat-race. What a beautiful part of the world it is. Brilliant to have everything we, (including our 2 year old), could possibly need provided for us here. F has loved meeting Holly, the hen's cows & exploring the farm. We really enjoyed visiting the Cotswold Wild Life Park & @Bristol science museum was a real hit too. Thanks John & Rose for your wonderful hospitality & for the really special first holiday we've had as a family. Love C, J & F 2012

BookThe Central England / Cotswolds / Gloucestershire region
The Cotswolds, an area of outstanding natural beauty, gains most of it character from its picturesque, Cotswold stone built, cottages, houses and famous dry stone walls. In the Gloucestershire Cotswolds we have the benefit of being perched on the edge of the Cotswold Escarpment, this is what gives rise to the stunning views from the Granary, whilst still being well placed to tour the picturesque wooded valleys and rolling wolds of the plateau top. One of the best walking areas in Britain, The Cotswold Way & the Monarch's Way, run through our land! Many of the lovely villages in the surrounding area have been used as film locations, a true testament to their beauty! Whole villages, such as Castle Coombe & Lacock, will have very few visible signs of modern life, not an aerial or satellite dish in site! We have many, many pre-history sites in the area; the countryside is literally littered with Barrows & Encampments! The awesome standing stone circles of Avebury Village are a must visit, as is Silbury Hill & the Kennet Long Barrow, not to mention our very own local 'Roman Camp', which was actually built 1,500 years before the Roman occupation! The Roman's liked the West Country, and widely settled it, due to the much milder climate it offered than the north of the country, which is still very much applicable today!
The Wotton Under Edge / Badminton area

The Fleece Inn, situated in the village of Hillesley, is a community owned Pub, it serves lovely home cooked food at reasonable prices, fine wine and local beer. open all day, every day, and is a gentle stroll from the Cottage.
The two Hawkesbury Upton village pubs are a more challenging walk away! 0.5 miles, but mostly up a steep hill! The Beaufort Inn serves good pub grub and welcomes walkers/hikers. The Fox Inn serves excellent Italian Cuisine. All 3 of the Public Houses are historic, genuinely old, typical Cotswold stone built hostelries.
More fine dining can be found at The Bodkin Inn Restaurant, The Hare & Hounds Hotel or the Snooty Fox Inn, all 3-5 miles away.

You can visit he many well know picture post card Cotswold villages and towns, such as Castle Coombe, Bourton-On-The-Water, Broadway, Stow-on-the-Wold & Letchlade, but also the less well known, but every bit as pretty, Cotswold villages & towns, such as Minchinhampton, Painswick, Wotton-Under-Edge & Tetbury. We are just 3 miles from Badminton. ideal for the Horse Trials! The town of Tetbury is home to HRH Prince Charles at Highgrove House, you can visit the Prince's Trust Highgrove Shop on Tetbury high street or, by booking in advance, you can tour Highgrove's organic gardens! The Cotswolds aren't, however, just about picturesque villages & scrummy cream teas! There are plenty of more adventurous activities on offer! You can take a chauffeured Motor-Trike tour of the Cotswolds, throw a high performance car around Castle Coombe's Race Circuit, take a stomach dropping Glider flight from the plateau, over the edge of the Cotswold escarpment to the Severn Vale below, take an adventurous Balloon flight over the beautiful Berkeley Vale, (you may even land in one of our fields!), hone your survival skills at paintballing, or your competitive skills at Go-Kart racing, Rock Climb the side of the Cheddar Gorge, and much more!

Walk in Jane Austen’s footsteps! The stunning Regency City of Bath was once home to the famous author; indeed she set her darkly Gothic tale, Northanger Abbey in Bath! The Jane Austen Experience is a must for fans, or if you just want one of the best afternoon teas Bath has to offer!

We have just had a Mon-Fri break at The Granary which was perfect for our family - 4 yr old daughter & 20 mth son who so enjoyed being in the countryside! The cottage was fully equipped with everything we could ever want, it was cosy, comfortable and so warm. Rose made sure we had stairgates, booster seats, change mat & cot with a box of toys and books which kept the children happy! Also a bottle of wine, chocolates & cookies on arrival, so kind. We bought yummy eggs from Archie's hens too. Farmer John spent precious time showing us around the farm, and talking to us about the day to day running of the farm. Our son was very excited to see the tractors close up. He spent a lot of our holiday "tractor-watching" from the cottage, and loved seeing the milk tanker arriving! We explored the local area - enjoyed a meal at The Fleece in Hillesley, a wander around Wotton, a day @At-Bristol science place (which the kids loved) and also Bibury, Castle Combe...endless places to visit and not enough time! We will definitely be back! Thank you xx Response: We do have the nicest guests here at the Granary! Thank you so much for your kind words, it was a pleasure to meet your little family and Farmer John very much enjoyed showing you around the farm. We're glad your little lad enjoyed watching the milk tanker come and go and the tractors driving around, Farmer John certainly has plenty of them, a ratio of around 3 Tractors to each of the 4 of them I believe! :0) We are very much looking forward to seeing you all again soon. We came here for a short Christmas Break with my 3 year old daughter, my sister and parents and the first thing we said when we walked through the door was WOW! My little girl was welcomed with a huge dolls house and a Shaun the Sheep welcome pack which she loved and a little present under the Christmas tree (this was the only present she played with the whole time were there :-)) We were welcomed with a Christmas Hamper with wine and chocolates and little Christmas gifts. It is such a cosy little cottage and they cater for all ages. We had such a lovely relaxing break and we were lucky enough to go and see the cows being milked and to feed the new born calves. Rose and Farmer John are the most perfect hosts and would highly recommend the cottage to everyone. We will definately be back soon!! Response: Thank you for your very kind words and we are thrilled that you so enjoyed your Christmas at The Granary. It was such a pleasure to meet you all and we very much hope you will be back to stay soon, we enjoyed the little chats! Rose & John x |
