The area around the village is largely undiscovered and unspoilt with the Loweswater valley and mountains offering dramatic views and scenary. Cockermouth is the birthplace of William Wordsworth, with his Georgian family home now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust, plus the town offers shops, pubs and places to eat. The area is also renowned for wonderful walking and cycling.
