The Worcester / Strensham area
The Old Rectory offers a retreat from everyday life, combining breathtaking scenery with a timeless sense of history. As you approach The Old Rectory, via its secluded driveway, you will discover it set beside Strensham Church, overlooking the River Avon on one side and the Malvern Hills the other. Being surrounded by hundreds of acres of farm land this will put you into holiday mood from the outset. Relax and watch the boats go by as you sip your complementary wine, taking in the panoramic vista and tranquillity. Alternatively by special arrangement you may wish to charter Narnia II, a 30ft narrow boat, moored at The Old Rectory; try your hand at operating the lock gates at Strensham and meander to the nearby Riverside Pub or cruise on to take in afternoon tea at historic Tewkesbury.
The next nearest village is Twyning, 5 mins away in the bordering county of Gloucestershire, with its two pubs: one on the village green where you can try your hand at skittles or there’s the The Fleet right on the River Avon where you can tuck into an extensive carvery and real ales. Down the lane at Strensham you can walk, jog or cycle to the local farm shop, jammed with local produce and treats; sit in their old fashion tea room and have a clotted cream tea ...and just slow down! Any direction you care to take off in you will find an amazing selection of high quality, welcoming gourmet pubs of immense character, right in the vicinity.

My wife, young son and parents in law had a wonderful 8 night stay at the Old Rectory. The service from Peter and Rosemary was excellent, all comforts were provided and nothing was left out. They were very friendly and helpful to us with plenty of tips on where to go and how to enjoy ourselves. On arrival we found that they had even left us a package of goodies including fresh eggs, milk, strawberries and wine The location of the house was perfect - very near to several picturesque towns, villages and local pubs. Since it was also not far from the M5, it was an easy drive from Heathrow Airport. During our stay we made several excursions not only around Worcestershire and Gloucestershire, but also further afield to Stratford on Avon, Wales, Somerset and Devon. Each was an easy day trip. The house itself is a hidden gem, more than 500 years old but the rooms are well laid out, well furnished and comfortable. The setting is perfect. The house stands alone, far from other houses. It is very peaceful, with a view down to the Avon and beyond from the two patios. My son and I caught several interesting fish in the river including pike, bream, perch and an eel. The rest of the family really enjoyed relaxing in the house and also sitting outside on the patio and enjoying the view. Our family would definitely recommend the Old Rectory as a very special place to stay. |

This was our second trip to the Old Rectory and thankfully nothing had changed. Rosemary and Peter are still extremely professional yet amenable and are readily available when required, but never intrusive. We like the location as it's secluded and right in the countryside, yet some major towns and amenities are very short car rides away. Also, most of my family are within 2 hours, so they can come and visit us, rather than us spending our precious vacation in the car doing the rounds. The property has lots to offer during periods of good and bad weather, even for my 4 year old son. With plenty of character the house is a good place to just hang around, or entertain, and genuinely holds 6 very comfortably and without feeling on top of each other. We lucked out finding this spot originally but now we've found a good location with the right features it will figure in all our trips back to the UK in future. |
