The Worcester / Strensham area
The Old Rectory offers a retreat from everyday life, combining breathtaking scenery with a timeless sense of history. As you approach The Old Rectory, via its secluded driveway, you will discover it set beside Strensham Church, overlooking the River Avon on one side and the Malvern Hills the other. Being surrounded by hundreds of acres of farm land this will put you into holiday mood from the outset. Relax and watch the boats go by as you sip your complementary wine, taking in the panoramic vista and tranquillity. Alternatively by special arrangement you may wish to charter Narnia II, a 30ft narrow boat, moored at The Old Rectory; try your hand at operating the lock gates at Strensham and meander to the nearby Riverside Pub or cruise on to take in afternoon tea at historic Tewkesbury.
The next nearest village is Twyning, 5 mins away in the bordering county of Gloucestershire, with its two pubs: one on the village green where you can try your hand at skittles or there’s the The Fleet right on the River Avon where you can tuck into an extensive carvery and real ales. Down the lane at Strensham you can walk, jog or cycle to the local farm shop, jammed with local produce and treats; sit in their old fashion tea room and have a clotted cream tea ...and just slow down! Any direction you care to take off in you will find an amazing selection of high quality, welcoming gourmet pubs of immense character, right in the vicinity.

My wife and I found the Groom's House a wonderfully relaxing place to stay, having a very extended honeymoon there. The house was really comfortable, and we were very soon 'at home', enjoying the quietness and the rural surroundings. The landlord was very friendly, welcoming and available. The cottage was full of character. We much enjoyed the comfy corner couch. I would strongly recommend a stay here; I think it is a part of the nicest house I know in England. |
