5 bedrooms, sleeps 10, sea views from front balcony and rear terrace, carefully restored and modernised in 2011 by architect-owner and being made available for the 1st time in Aug 2011. Ideal for families. Piano. Perfectly located near shore & moor in the wonderful village of Mortehoe, near fabulous coastal paths, moorland walks, golf, local swimming beach and Woolacombe surfing. Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Unesco Biosphere reserve, conservation area, surrounded by National Trust farmland.

DRIVING: for SatNav the house's exact coordinates are 51.18449,-4.20927. Or use the postcode EX34 7DX to get to Mortehoe and you'll find The Buttery and Cromlech House opposite the Chichester Arms pub.
Directions from M5:
At junction 27, take the A361 exit to Tiverton/Barnstaple (0.3 mi)
At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto A361 heading to Barnstaple/Tiverton/Halberton/Sampford Peverell
Go through 2 roundabouts (25.6 mi)
At N Aller Roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto A399 (14.3 mi)
Turn left onto Long Ln/A3123 (2.8 mi)
Turn left onto A3123 (4.1 mi)
At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto B3343 (1.8 mi)
Turn right onto Mortehoe Station Rd
When you get to Mortehoe Village follow the road when it bends left at the church. The Crescent is the terrace on the left just after the Chichester Arms pub.
There is a private parking space right outside the house, and Mortehoe public car park is a minute's pleasant walk away through the village.
Buses pass the house (Woolacombe-Barnstaple). National Cycle Rouse 27 is also directly outside the house. Nearest rail station: Barnstaple. Airports: Exeter, Bristol. Driving: M5, North Devon Link Road.

FLYING:
flybe.com flies to Exeter from many UK and international airports. Mortehoe is is 90 mins drive from Exeter, or take Exeter-Barnstaple train.
Bristol Airport is 2hrs 15 mins drive from Mortehoe.

TRAIN:
Take train to Exeter, at Exeter change to charming Tarka Line train to Barnstaple. From Barnstaple take taxi or bus to Mortehoe.

BUS: There is a bus route connecting Mortehoe to Barnstaple.

CYCLE: National Cycle Route 27 passes directly outside the house.

“Family -friendly house in an excellent location” The house and location proved to be a hit with all the family, young and old. The eco-friendly house is very comfortable and well equipped with such additional delights as a piano which our party much enjoyed. We hardly used the car all week as a number of excellent beaches are accessible on foot. Those who like walking are spoilt for choice! We also found the pubs and the shops in the village a great asset. All in all we had a great time and hope to return.

“A delightful holiday home in a wonderful location” The Buttery is a well equipped spacious property which suited our group of 10. There is a fabulous kitchen where we could all sit and eat together in comfort and a lovely large living room. Bedrooms were also spacious with comfy beds and enough bathrooms to guarantee no queueing. The sun terrace is a sun trap with distant sea views and there is a balcony on the first floor where you can also just about see the sea. Mortehoe village is charming with great pubs, a lovely tea room, a well stocked local shop, and friendly folk. The coastline is beautiful and the beaches are numerous and varied. The owners were more than helpful, bending over backwards to help in every way. The area can be a bit busy with clogged roads, packed beaches, and the usual holiday area hassles, but you can still find solitude and seclusion if you look for it. The beach is a good 15 minute walk away but it's a pleasant walk with great views and worth it when you get there.

“fantastic long weekend with friends in Mortehoe” The house was spotlessly clean and beautifully laid out, beds were incredibly comfortable and there were ample bathrooms/toilets for 10 of us. There was a large utility room, perfect for our boots and 3 dogs. Kitchen was reasonably well equipped, but since we were cooking pretty elaborate meals we did take a lot of our own equipment. Board games and cards were a welcome addition, together with the ipod dock and wifi. Good local shops including post office/newsagents, grocery shop with fresh bread and the deli next door had some pretty amazing ingredients including olives, great local cheeses and icecream. So much to do and see in the local area - fabulous being in a village with 3 pubs and being able to walk to beaches, Woolacoombe and Ilfracombe to explore, I could easily have stayed for the week . All in all a fantastic bank holiday rental.

“A perfect house to enjoy friends company - eat drink and be merry.” This house was the chosen spot for a lovely 30th birthday weekend. Friends met from around the country and we all felt very at home in the beautiful space that this clean contemporary house provides. We had a mixed group with 2 young children under 2. The 3 story dwelling allowed us to put the kids to bed and enjoy the evenings mainly in the kitchen cooking, eating, having some great chats a few games and of course a few glasses of wine. The kitchen/dining room made cooking all meals a real pleasure. The house has a great situation and we walked both days along the coastal path to Woolacombe beach where a few warming games were played in the not so bright weather - which didn't stand in the way of a thoroughly enjoyed weekend. Dominic thank you so much for all your help when booking this location we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely think of returning. A great place! Many thanks Ben and Sarah

“We would definitely recommend staying in this lovely house” We were a group of couples with 3 babies/toddlers. The house was as advertised and was perfect for our weekend stay (shame we were not staying longer). The booking was easy and the owners were quick to repsond to any emails exchanged before our holiday. It was lovely to be in a village setting yet close to the beach with coastal walks just on your doorstep. We will definitely go back to The Buttery again at some point.

“Fantastic house, great location, perfect new year!” I found the Buttery on-line whilst searching for a house big enough for 5 couples for a 3 night new year break. I had an immediate response back from Dominic with a very detailed description about the property. The booking process was very easy, we just had to pay a deposit and the balance 7 weeks before we arrived. I was in constant communication with Dominic before our stay, any questions I had were answered within 24hrs. Despite this I was nervous before we arrived at the property as I was responsible for booking the property for our party of 10 and if anything was wrong with it I knew I would be to blame!! There was absolutely no reason to be nervous! The key pick up was very easy, and the house is absolutely fantastic! The huge dining table in the kitchen meant we could all cook and eat our meals together, we had a home delivery from Sainsbury's booked for when we arrived which was perfect as we ordered all the food & drink we needed on-line before we left. The utility room was perfect for the rainy days when we were all covered in mud from long walks and provided a bedroom for our dog! The bedrooms are all very generous in size and 3 rooms have en-suite bathrooms (1 bathroom shared between a double room and the TV room/sofa bed room). The house was absolutely spotless and beds very comfortable which is sometimes what lets a holiday rental down. The property is literally a 20 second walk (we timed it) to the nearest pub - The Chichester Arms, a 1 minute walk to the next pub and a 15 minute walk into Woolacombe. Summer would be a great time to come as the property has a lovely sun terrace that you can see the sea from. I would describe the house as very comfortable and homely and you could easily spend a week or more here as there is so much space, even with 10 people. Would recommend the house to anyone and we look forward to staying again!

“Fab weekend” 'Fab weekend! Thank you for lovely stay. We liked the house a lot, especially the balcony and the many bedrooms. We also like the walk down to Grunta beach and to Woolacombe and the icecream in the Deli. We'd like to come back again soon.'

“I just cannot wait to go back.” This is a beautiful renovated house in a charming, old-fashioned British village, located close (short walking distance) to a rocky coast that offers fantastic swimming, hikes along the cliff side from village to village, and many other potential adventures. Everything you would want for a perfect, relaxing vacation was present in the house, which is located right in the village next to shops and restaurants. You don't need to drive anywhere. But, those who want to see Bath or other big tourist spots can do so as a day trip. For those who like surfing, this home is located one village over from a center for British surfing (yes, they do surf in England).
