The West Country / Devon region
Devon is one of England's greenest and most dramatic counties, and the North Coast in particular is full of unspoilt countryside and dramatic coastal scenery. Relatively undeveloped, it is recognised as one of England's few remaining areas of tranquillity, where low light pollution allows dramatic views of the stars.
Devon is famed for its beautiful countryside, dramatic coast and mild weather, making it ideal for a country or water-sports getaway at any time of year. A host of family attractions and museums, stately homes, and picture postcards villages mean that there is plenty to do away from the beach too. Our friendly people and fantastic local produce (including cream teas) a visit to Devon will be a memorable visit to a place less frantic than the rest of England.
The Woolacombe / Mortehoe area
Mortehoe is a pretty stone built village perched on a dramatic headland above some of Britain's finest beaches. There are several tea rooms and pubs, a fish and chip shop, general store, deli and post office right on your doorstep. The village has grown around the thirteenth century church and also includes Mortehoe Heritage Centre which recounts the area"s rich maritime history.
Mortehoe is the starting point for many scenic walks along this dramatic stretch of coastline. The South West coast path, starting at the cottage door, can lead you East to the curious Victorian resort of Ilfracombe, or South to the glorious golden sandy beaches of Woolacombe and Croyde. These are some of Europe"s finest and cleanest beaches, ideal for both families with children and watersports enthusiasts. Woolacombe's three miles of golden sands, just 20 minutes walk down the hill, have achieved both the Blue Flag and Premier Beach Seaside Award.
Our favourite places within easy reach of Mortehoe include the dramatic Valley of the Rocks at Lynton, and the water-powered Cliff Railway, the carriage collection at Arlington Court, family fun at the Big Sheep near Bideford and visits to the regional centre of Barnstaple, half an hour's drive away. Or a gentle (if hilly) walk to the more secluded beaches along the coast towards Lee Bay for a quiet getaway from the summertime crowds.

A Devonshire crean tea awaited our arrival<much appreciated after a long drive. The property didn't disappoint,it was clean, well equipped and lovely. Our children(aged 3 & 5) loved their room and the grandparents joined us for a couple of days and were also impressed.Great for beaches and coastal walks and a family pub opposite with good food was a bonus. We'll definetly be back. |

Had a great weeks stay in this fantastic cottage. It's location was perfect opposite our favourite pub in the village and near to some fantastic costal walks and beaches. The inside of the cottage offered every thing we could want and when the kids found the toy and games cupboard they were sorted for indoor activities. |

We found Cobblestone Cottage to be a very comfortable place for our weekend - the children particularly loved the bunkbeds, and we could get to the beach down the hill with just a short scenic walk. Would recommend! |
