"Property in need of overhaul!"
We chose this property because of it's very good location within Woodhall Spa and enclosed garden as we had a couple of young children in our party of seven. The very positive feedbacks it had re… More
Thank you for raising your concerns about our property which we will address in the order you raised them. 2 years ago £25,000 was spent on modernising the house which included new floors, kitchen (new touch sensitive hob/oven and washer dryer), dining table and chairs, carpets, lino, downstairs toilet, windows and doors to the rear, drainage outside etc, The property is Edwardian and includes mostly pine furniture which we and all other guests have found appropriate for the house rather than the unspecific phrase used by the reviewer of being a “mishmash” (please view pictures on website to confirm this – also please view cream sofa picture which is not “very well worn” nor “gruby” (sic) ) The downstairs bedroom has just 3 pieces of furniture: one chest of drawers, one dressing table and a small wardrobe capable of holding enough clothes for a holiday. The mattress was new last year and the “mattress cover” is in fact an expensive 3 inch memory foam top mattress. Myself and my wife at not slim people and we have never had problems with sleeping on the bed, fitted sheets staying on or moving around the bedroom. It is our preferred bedroom when we stay there. As far as previous reviews being written for another property this is of course impossible as holiday lettings know who exactly stayed at the property and when. The fact that we confirmed this review shows that we are open and honest about all reviews which we take very seriously. The reviewer's remarks about cleanliness is an example. Our cleaner has now read this review so that the issues stated will be monitored in future. However, the house is self-catering and what the reviewer failed to mention was all the free extras that we provide. Coffee, tea sugar, washing powder, condiments, etc etc. All guests receive a guide from us where we explain that they may help themselves to these so as to avoid a massive shop. Consequently, it is unfortunate that a jam jar and a bag of carrots left in a pan cupboard were not checked. In terms of cleanliness, this is the first time this issue has been raised since last year when the house was first let. I stayed at the house soon after the reviewer and in my opinion (which is the same as previous guests) the house was very clean. The same must be said for the comments about linen. The sheets are expensive brushed cotton purchased 1 year ago. There are 3 sets for each bed and since we have had about 10 guests in total so far each sheet will have been used a maximum of about 4 or 5 times. Again the reviewer is at odds with all other guests who specifically have praised the softness of the beds and sheets. The boiler provides instant hot water whenever you need it however if it is not used for a day or so it may need to be relit. Instructions are on the boiler in the bathroom and it is very quick and easy: simply push a large button and hold for 10 secs and then release. We have found that we only have to do this once at the start when we stay so I wonder if the reviewer's children were playing with the boiler knobs? The bathroom window has frosted glass so does not require a blind and the door closed perfectly when I tested it afterwards. All bathroom fixtures and fittings are serviceable and clean and the garden although not immaculate has a long lawn and a variety of potted plants which when in bloom are very attractive (please see garden picture on website). Finally if the wheelie bin was full please leave rubbish in a bin bag (which we provide) next to it. In summary, the reviewer has exaggerated and overstated issues and has failed to write a balanced review. The house does NOT require a “major make over” as you can clearly see from the website pictures. However the few minor issues of perceived deficiencies in cleanliness will be monitored. Other reviewers have stated that it is “perfect” and a “home from home”. The website clearly states 3 bedrooms and 7 beds which is ideal for large families with children, but not so suitable if all 7 are adults. It is not of the standard of a penthouse at the Savoy however it offers great value at around £10-15 per person per day compared with a hotel or bed and breakfast. As far as the reviewer considering returning, we are afraid that this will not be possible. We had complaints from neighbours about their children climbing out of windows, screaming and shouting and being verbally abusive. Also the new kitchen door lock was broken and there was bubble gum on the carpet. We did not charge for this however we will be unable to allow another booking.
