About this location

The Devon region

2 miles from Woodbury is an attractive town on the Exe estuary, Devon. Now part of Exeter, it nevertheless maintains a distinctive identity. Loved by its locals, and savoured by those who visit, Topsham offers river walks; wildlife; a Saturday morning market; many characterful shops, restaurants and inns; and quiet space to sit and watch the sailing boats go by.

Whilst the main attraction is the two miles of family friendly beach, ideal for swimming, sandcastles or exploring the rock pools, there is also the amazing Exe Estuary, home to numerous amounts of wildlife and a real favourite for birdwatchers, as featured on the BBC Autumn Watch 2010.

The city is full of character and ancient history, Exeter is still able to offer all the amenities and comforts that would be expected of a modern day city. One of Exeter's most popular and well-known 'places to see' is St Peters Cathedral. The cathedral, which dominates the close and the city's skyline, was built 1114 Norman times and its present form was finished around 1375. The two magnificent towers are the main survivors of the original construction

Exeter's Historic Quayside provides a lovely atmosphere in which to relax and stroll around. You can visit the historic Customs House and various other old buildings and warehouses dating back to Charles II. Whilst wandering around the quay area you will also come across the odd antique and craft shop for that all-important gift. Refreshments are offered through the many pubs, cafés and food outlets nearby.

Budleigh Salterton

The town centre with its unique and much prized selection of shops, most of which are still independently owned, is only a short walk from the sea front. There you will find a beautifully clean pebble beach, which provides clear water and safe bathing.

The Jurassic Coast aw

The 95 mile stretch of coastline from Exmouth to Swanage has recently become Britain's first Natural World Heritage Site, to rank alongside The Great Barrier Reef and the Grand Canyon. It is one of the more important earth science sites in the world and its wonderful natural beauty contains many renowned features of tremendous significance to geological history.

Darts Farm: Located a 10 minute drive away Darts Farm is not be missed. There emphasis is on food that is locally grown reared, baked or caught. They have an on-site master butcher, fishmonger, baker, deli, cider maker and restaurant.

If you fancy a cycle along the stunning Exe Estuary cycle trail, world famous for its birds, and beautiful scenery Darts Farm have a great selection of traditional and contemporary bicycles from quality British manufacturers, including Pashley, Isla Bikes and Dawes which can be hired . They also have a range of accessories, including baby seats, trailers and tag-a-longs to provide a fun day out for all the family. The Darts Farm ponds offer 24 hour rod fishing of Carp, Roach and Bream. Adults £6 a day and £10 for 24hrs. Concessions £4 a day and £8 for 24 hrs.For the children there is a safe play area as well as an animal corner with pigs, cow and in the summer alpacas.

Exe Estuary Trail:The Exe Estuary is a unique and very special place. The Exe Estuary NCN Route 2, known as the Exe Estuary Trail, is proving to be to be a first class cycling and walking route. This route provides an exciting opportunity for people to experience cycling or walking around the entire Exe Estuary, appreciating the wildlife and passing through some beautiful riverside towns and villages steeped in maritime history. The cyclepath and walkway, when completed, will run around the entire Exe Estuary linking Exmouth, Exeter and Dawlish. The route itself is fairly flat and takes in the most fantastic views along the River Exe with lots to see and do along the way.

Woodbury Park Golf and CountryClub:If you want to play golf in fantastic surroundings, look no further than the golf club at Woodbury Park . Even if you don't play your best golf, the scenery alone in Devon is worth the walk, with manicured greens and an abundance of wildlife - this really is golf at it best. The leisure facilities at the club are open to members and non-members, and include a fitness studio, 20 metre indoor swimming pool, sauna suite and jacuzzi as well as tennis and squash courts. "Lovely cosy cottage in great surroundings"

We stayed at this lovely little cottage for 4 nights with our dog in April and could not have wished for a better spot. The cottage is home from home and very well equipped. The village has 2 friendly pubs with great food and lovely walks. The beach at Budleigh Salterton is only a short drive and the dog loved it. We also walked on Woodbury Common which was lovely and peaceful with beautiful views. A great find and a big thank you to owners Jane and Rich for making our stay so enjoyable, would definitely visit again.

Thank you so much for your comments. Its good to hear that we met all of your expectations
