The East Anglia / Suffolk region
The Manor is situated in the beautiful Suffolk countryside, close to Woodbridge and the Heritage Coast.
Woodbridge lies on the banks of the river Deben, just across the river from probably the most important Anglo-Saxon site in the United Kingdom - the Sutton Hoo Saxon royal burial ship. With 1400 years of recorded history, the town has retained an interesting variety of historical architecture, making it an interesting town just to walk around; there is also the River Deben, for boating and riverside walks.
Woodbridge enjoys a proper 'high street' - the Thoroughfare - with many independent proper, shops! In fact, Woodbridge has over one hundred specialist shops and dozens of places to eat and drink. And visitors often comment on the particularly friendly welcome they receive in Woodbridge.
The Woodbridge area
An attractive town steeped in history you can take a "time walk" from Anglo Saxon times up to the present.
At Sutton just outside Woodbridge is the famous Saxon Hoo Burial site, which is now in the hands of the National Trust. It has an education centre, exhibition hall, restaurant and shop. You can visit the burial site and then return to the exhibition to see some of the artefacts found at the site.
There is a unique Tide Mill, which has been restored, with a model showing how the millpond was used to turn the wheels, which are, at certain times of the tide still turning. This must be one of most photographed sites in England. The river is ideal for yachting and the attractive riverside area boasts, restaurants, tea shop, art gallery and theatre, which features films and live entertainment The Suffolk Punch Heavy Horse museum is a unique attraction dedicated to the Suffolk breed of horse.
