The Old Bake House is the ideal place to escape and enjoy living in an historic building which was once the village Bake House.As a grade II listed Cotswold stone building it retains its original features with the entrance opening into a hall which was once the site of the oven. It is situated in the heart of the village close to the shops, pub and public transport
The views from the cottage are over rolling hills and countryside with excellent walks including the Oxfordshire Way, which runs alongside the boundary of the property, and a lovely walk through beech woods and over a stream to the nearby Roman Villa. It is well placed for visiting the old market town of Burford, the 'Gateway to the Cotswolds', Stow-On-The -Wold, Morton In Marsh and Bourton-On-Water, all picturesque Cotswold towns. Oxford with its University Colleges, parks and shopping is only 12 miles and the historic market town of Woodstock and Blenheim Palace, the birth place of Winston Churchill, are 2 miles away.
For those who enjoy shopping Bicester Village, is only 13 miles away and for Theatre goers The Royal Shakespeare Theatre and birthplace of William Shakespeare at Stratford -On-Avon is just a fourty minute drive as well as a variety of theatres and musical events in Oxford.
The village is well facilitated with its own Pub which serves food, a Farm Shop, a grocery store, a Post Office, hairdresser and for a freshly cooked gourmet food 'Good Gourmet' delivers to your door. There is a regular bus service and Charlbury railway station is only 2miles away.
The cottage is cosy with gas central heating and a wood burning stove. On the ground floor is a large hallway, downstairs toilet, living room with French windows, a kitchen dining room fully equipped with a cooker, fridge, dishwasher, washing machine, and microwave. WIFI and freeview TV are also available. On the first floor is a double bedroom with King Size bed, a second twin bedroom, and a bathroom which includes a traditional cast iron roll top bath. Crisp white linen and towels are provided.
The Old Bake House has its own courtyard seating area with barbeque, from which you can enjoy the sunset in the evening and rolling countryside during the day.

The Central England/Cotswolds region
Stonesfield is a small, quiet village well known for being the historical centre for mining 'Stonesfield Slates' the beautiful limestone slates used for roofing throughout the Cotswolds.It has its own Pub, Farm Shop, Post Office, Village Store and Hairdresser. If you prefer to eat at home and don't want to cook your own food 'Good Gourmet' is just down the street and will bring freshly cooked delicious food to your door. The Roman Villa is a delightful walk from the cottage through a beech wood and across some fields.
We are ideally situated to visit many of the pretty Cotswold towns and villages in Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire the nearest being Woodstock where you can visit Blenheim Palace which was the birth place of Winston Churchill and has wonderful grounds to walk in or take the little train to the Maze, Butterfly House, childrens play park and restaurant. Woodstock also has a variety of places to eat from Five star restaurants to, tea rooms, cafe's and pubs.
The historic town of Burford, Gateway to the Cotswolds, is a twenty minute drive away and is a delightful old Cotswold town, a must to visit Stow-on-the Wold and Bourton -on-the Water are both a half an hour drive away, among the others others are Morton In Marsh, Broadway , Bibury and Cirencester. Stratford Upon Avon, the birth place of William Shakespeare, is a picturesque fourty minute .drive away and here you can wander round this stunning Elizabethan town and perhaps enjoy the delights of a Play at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
Oxford with its ancient University Colleges, cobbled streets and lovely river, is another place to spend a day and is only a twenty minute drive. Here you can also do your shopping, walk in the University Parks,have fun punting on the river, visit the famous museums or attend musical recitals and the theatre.
Altogether Stonesfield is well placed to have a tranquil stay in rolling countryside with many beautiful walks and access to endless beautiful places to visit.
Apart from being a lovely area to visit Stonesfield is well placed for public transport with a regular bus service passing through the village and a railway station just two miles away in Charlbury.
Dining out - Stonesfield has its own Pub just up the road from the cottage. Woodstock has a variety of restaurants and Cafe's as well as Take Away's. In addition there are many local pubs to visit in the surrounding villages.
Walks - if you enjoy walking there are numerous delightful walks, all of which can be done from the cottage without the need to drive anywhere. The Oxfordshire Way runs alongside the cottage and is a well known walkers treasure.
