Key Info

Gorgeously romantic detached annexe with stunning views across an area of outstanding natural beauty. Generously proportioned studio room with french doors to large private balcony with tree growing through it. Spiral staircase to downstairs kitchenette and shower room. Access to beautiful garden shared with the owner's family which backs onto open fields. Self catering.

Tucked away in historically rich 1066 country it is ideally located for walking, horse riding, cycling and painting. There is a strong arts and crafts movement locally and there are plenty of good pubs that serve excellent food within easy reach. For nature lovers there is an abundance of local bird life and the nearby marshes and levels on the way to the beach at Pevensey (15 minutes by car). 5 mins from the South Downs National Park it is within easy reach of Eastbourne, Tunbridge Wells, Hastings, Brighton, Ashdown (Pooh Bear) Forest and Forest Row Country Park. There is fishing at the local trout farm, golf, tennis, a windmill, Herstmonceux Castle and a Science Centre. Other nearby attractions include the Bluebell Railway, Sheffield Park, Michelham Priory, the White Horse at Alfriston and Long Man at Wilmington.

It's on a tiny little lane with trees meeting over the road in places. There are lots of public footpaths including one that goes through next door's land and down through fields to the woods. Dogs that don't attack cats are welcome so long as the owners do no let them run loose unattended in the garden (especially near the vegetables) or leave them locked in on their own and make use of the pooper scooper! There is wifi but it's country wifi - ie not slow but not superfast.

Treetops is an ideal retreat or lovenest - it's wonderful space for getting away from it all and right into the countryside; to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature; to heal, create music or art or to study. It's very much a cosy country property rather than a stylish hotel setting but it's nicely and very comfortably furnished in rustic style. Horses clop along the lane outside and birdsong fills the air. There is a farmer along the lane who has equipment in use and large vehicles during the week sometimes so it's more reliably peaceful at weekends. The owner is a music teacher who lives in the main house with one child. There's a pergola with a built-in barbecue and seating which you are welcome to use or share should the owner be there at the time of your visit. It's possible to have the fridge/freezer stocked with a variety of locally sourced food on request including meat from the farm shop and wonderful cheeses and vegetables. Similarly should you require a bottle of chilled champagne on arrival this can be arranged with the owner.

For single parents or parent/child quality time the garden is ideal, with a brick-built Wendy house and a wooden climbing frame/swing/slide set and more swings and hammocks from the trees, including one suitable for adults from the major oak in the front garden. There are two ponds protected by mesh and fencing respectively. A high chair can be provided on request but there are no stair gates so it's not suitable for toddlers.

"A real find ~ A relaxed treehouse ~ style retreat, beautiful countryside, ideal for a couple."

Oh what a discovery this was!... A tree~top studio, in a lovely English garden in Sussex. .We only had three nights, but it certainly made an impression. The weather was perfect and it was just like playing treehouses, only more comfortable and very romantic. For somewhere really unique and different it is not at all expensive...and it is looked after by a very friendly and talented young Mum who is a singer/performer/ music~ teacher.
We particularly enjoyed sitting out on the wooden balcony with our books and glasses of wine ~ a leafy, relaxing and private little outdoor retreat. There's a tree growing through the platform~ in fact it partially supports it~ and peaceful views over the garden..
The balcony is accessed through French doors at one end of the main upper living room..
The main room is a generous loft ~ style space, with a pine bed, and small pine table/dining area plus squashy sofa. Its an easy place to get settled if you only have a short time for a break. The main feature here is the fabulous view from two huge Velux roof windows which you can fully open for more of the outdoorsy, treehouse vibe! The span of Sussex countryside visible is just gorgeous.
A spiral staircase leads down to the cute kitchenette (well equipped and modern) and pretty, spacious shower room.
The front door is an old~fashioned, split stable door which adds to the fun aspect, and from it you see the base of the big old tree that supports the balcony above, and have immediate access to, and use of the lovely garden.

The setting is also leafy and lovely, down an unspoilt, tree ~ lined country lane with only a couple of houses and farmland all around. The whole of the South Downs is at your reach (you do really need a car for this place) and the coast and lovely villages very nearby..We only scratched the surface of what there is to do! ...Visited Herstmonceux, Pevensey Castle and Beachy Head.

We came away thinking we will definitely return again and again ~ it would be perfect as a place to unwind at any time of the year (there's central heating)
and so fun for a primary age child and parent(s) ~ or just big kids at heart, like us! Thank you to Sam for making us welcome : )

Thank you so much for taking the time to do this and writing such a glowing review. We'll be delighted to see you next time you visit. All the very best to you both.
