The Cumbria/Lake District
Windermere is a town in Cumbria, England, lying about one kilometre away from the lake of the same name. Although Windermere confusingly does not touch the lake, it has now grown together with the older lakeside town of Bowness-on-Windermere, though the two retain distinguishable town centres. There are a number of museums, but the main draw for its many tourists is the lake. Boats from the piers in Bowness (about a fifteen-minute walk from the top of Windermere town) sail around the lake, many calling at Ambleside or at Lakeside where there is a restored railway.
Windermere is the largest natural lake in England, and is entirely within in the Lake District National Park. It has been one of the country's most popular places for holidays and summer homes since 1847, when the Kendal and Windermere Railway built a branch line to it. Lake Windermere is 10½ miles (17 km) long and varies from a quarter of a mile to one mile wide (400 m to 1500 m). It reaches a depth of about 220 feet (65 m) near its northern end and has an elevation above sea level of 130 feet (40 m). The lake is drained from its southernmost point by the River Leven. There are two towns which border the lake, Ambleside and Bowness-on-Windermere.
The lake is largely surrounded by foot-hills of the Lake District which provide pleasant low-level walks; to the north and north-east are the higher fells of Central Lakeland.
Windermere town itself offers a wide range of shops and restaurants including a large Booths supermarket and a smaller Morrisons and Co-op. Windermere is an excellent location for exploring the wider Lake District and Lake Windermere, or you can walk from the flat into the surrounding hills or countryside.
Local attractions include a variety of National Trust properties and gardens, Blackwell arts and craft house, Ruskin's house at Brantwood and Beatrix Potter's house and museum.

We had a week at this delightful apartment. Easy walk to the station for the train or bus. Lovely pubs and restaurants in the area, also with easy walk.
The apartment is lovely, comfortable, sunny and welcoming.
I would come and stay again if I visited the area.
The welcome pack of Wine and Biscuits, milk and bread and cheeses in the fridge, was extra special.

A wonderfully cosy apartment right in the heart of Windermere town. Close to restaurants and shops. We even walked to Bowness (mile and a half). The apartment was well equipped and comfortable - perfect for our short break.

"Beautiful apartment – highly recommended"
This is a lovely apartment, located just at the top of Windermere town, a very short distance from shops, cafes and pubs, but nestled away from the main road. We spent our time walking as uch as possible and it's a nice 20–25 minute walk down to Bowness, the water and the ferries (slightly harder walk uphill on the way home after a day's walking :-) ).
The apartment is absolutely spotless – nice layout with well-equipped kitchen (everything has been thought of – down to washing up liquid and tea towels) – and a great little balcony with views out over the hills on the other side of the lake.
I would thoroughly recommend this apartment – it would certainly be our first choice when we're next back in the Lakes (and we've been coming to the Lakes for years).

Just got back from a week stay at 15 College Gate and from opening the door at the start to closing it at the end it was total joy. On arrival a selection of goodies awaited us to start our holiday which was a nice surprise. Spotless accommodation which is well furnished and had everything you need. Great to sit out on the balcony which catches the sun and in peaceful surroundings. We would certainly like to return some time in the future. Thanks for a great holiday a first in Windermere.

We have just returned from a sunny week at College Gate and would highly recommend it. The apartment is located in an excellent location, a short walk from the shops and restaurants of Windermere, yet set in a very peaceful location. The parking space is another bonus. The apartment is very well equipped and comfortable and the welcome pack was very much appreciated.
It is ideally located to explore the surrounding area and no where is too far to travel. A few places well worth a visit are...Bowness on Windermere (very busy at weekends), a boat trip to Ambleside, Kendal, Keswick, Grasmere (very pretty village) and Coniston (beautiful views). (Handy tip...Coniston and Grasmere schools open up their school car parks during holidays and weekends to the public).

"Fabulous location with everything you could need."
Excellent apartment, exceptionally well equipped and in a great location.Lots of thoughtful touches; a welcome pack with essentials on arrival, a wealth of information on the surrounding area and all you could need in the kitchen. A short stroll took us to a restaurant called 'Francines' where we had a great meal with warm friendly service. Another first class meal was had in Bowness at 'Postilion' truly wonderful. Enjoyed the balcony on a sunny afternoon with a good book and a glass of wine. Great location, parked the car when we arrived and didn't use it again until we left.

"Best 'Holiday Let' we have ever stayed at!"
Excellently located within a minutes walk to Windermere's bustling high street & yet secluded in a quiet area when you want to relax after a days adventure. Parking space enables you to lock up and leave the car - ideal when you want to venture for a meal & drink without picking short straws for who will have to drive!
Mike and Yvette were perfect hosts, happy to show all the features of the apartment if you request this and have thought of absolutely everything that you may need for your stay, even down to sandwich bags & ties if you want to take a packed lunch out for the day.
The apartment was spotlessly clean with all modern facilities in 'as new' condition. The covered balcony off the sitting room was lovely to sit out and enjoy a morning brew/evening tipple and enjoy the scenic views.
Also included was a welcome hamper of bread milk cheese etc. to save having to search for the first days breakfast, and wine/crisps to enjoy when putting your feet up with if having a night in with the widescreen TV!
The only downside was having to leave!
Well done Yvette and Mike, "if Carling made holiday lets"...................... They could learn a thing or two from you!
