The Cumbria/Lake District
Windermere is a town in Cumbria, England, lying about one kilometre away from the lake of the same name. Although Windermere confusingly does not touch the lake, it has now grown together with the older lakeside town of Bowness-on-Windermere, though the two retain distinguishable town centres. There are a number of museums, but the main draw for its many tourists is the lake. Boats from the piers in Bowness (about a fifteen-minute walk from the top of Windermere town) sail around the lake, many calling at Ambleside or at Lakeside where there is a restored railway.
Windermere is the largest natural lake in England, and is entirely within in the Lake District National Park. It has been one of the country's most popular places for holidays and summer homes since 1847, when the Kendal and Windermere Railway built a branch line to it. Lake Windermere is 10½ miles (17 km) long and varies from a quarter of a mile to one mile wide (400 m to 1500 m). It reaches a depth of about 220 feet (65 m) near its northern end and has an elevation above sea level of 130 feet (40 m). The lake is drained from its southernmost point by the River Leven. There are two towns which border the lake, Ambleside and Bowness-on-Windermere.
The lake is largely surrounded by foot-hills of the Lake District which provide pleasant low-level walks; to the north and north-east are the higher fells of Central Lakeland.
Windermere town itself offers a wide range of shops and restaurants including a large Booths supermarket and a smaller Morrisons and Co-op. Windermere is an excellent location for exploring the wider Lake District and Lake Windermere, or you can walk from the flat into the surrounding hills or countryside.
Local attractions include a variety of National Trust properties and gardens, Blackwell arts and craft house, Ruskin's house at Brantwood and Beatrix Potter's house and museum.

Lovely apartment, welcome pack from Yvette and Mike, a lovely personal touch, very welcome after a long journey. Everything thought of in apartment, home from home. Board games came in handy for our rain (rest) day. Good location, minutes walk to village with shops and restaurants. 20 minute walk to lake, for boat trip, shops and restaurants. Good access for visiting local areas. A must do: take the time to walk up Orrest Head (25 minutes from apartment to the top)- lovely views of lake and the sunset is amazing. If you are feeling energetic try to get up early for the sunrise - spectacular from Orrest Head. A wonderful break in beautiful surroundings.

"Home away from home-and the rest"
We travelled to Windermere on 30th July to stay at college gate. After reading the reviews and the correspondence I had received from Yvette I knew we were in for a treat and we weren't disappointed! Fantastic flat, great amenities, lovely welcome pack, comforts you would expect from home, and the rest. Lovely balcony for breakfast, amazing views, fully equipped kitchen and perfectly placed for visiting all areas of the Lake District. We will definitely visit again, thanks for an amazing stay and a fantastic place to stay.

"Wonderful Holiday Apartment"
We have stayed in many apartments, and have to say that is the best one we have ever stayed in. A great deal of thought and planning has gone in to this apartment. Every thing that could possibly be needed for a lovely holiday has been considered. There was nothing that we needed not being there. It was clean, well designed, and the welcome pack most appreciated. It is in a wonderful position, so close to the town, and all the shops and restaurants. And the extra bonus is the allocated car parking. The whole process of booking from start to finish by the owner Yvette was excellent.

"'Home from Home'"
Stayed for one week in June with husband and 2 teenage children. Apartment is easy to find, centrally located, yet quiet (only noise was that of traffic on nearby road noticeable at night in bedrooms, though this did not bother us). Designated car park. Very slick check in-out system and prompt return of damage deposit. Inside is a bright apartment which has been very tastefully decorated. Owners provide good quality towels, bed linen and very comfortable beds along with a wealth of tourist information leaflets so no worries if you arrive outside of TI opening hours! Within easy walking distance of shops, bus/train station and Orrest Head viewpoint. This apartment, which is spotlessly clean, has lots of hidden extras giving it a real 'home from home' feel. Although we travel to a different holiday destination each year we would dearly love to stay in this apartment again.

We had a week at this delightful apartment. Easy walk to the station for the train or bus. Lovely pubs and restaurants in the area, also with easy walk.
The apartment is lovely, comfortable, sunny and welcoming.
I would come and stay again if I visited the area.
The welcome pack of Wine and Biscuits, milk and bread and cheeses in the fridge, was extra special.

A wonderfully cosy apartment right in the heart of Windermere town. Close to restaurants and shops. We even walked to Bowness (mile and a half). The apartment was well equipped and comfortable - perfect for our short break.

"Beautiful apartment – highly recommended"
This is a lovely apartment, located just at the top of Windermere town, a very short distance from shops, cafes and pubs, but nestled away from the main road. We spent our time walking as uch as possible and it's a nice 20–25 minute walk down to Bowness, the water and the ferries (slightly harder walk uphill on the way home after a day's walking :-) ).
The apartment is absolutely spotless – nice layout with well-equipped kitchen (everything has been thought of – down to washing up liquid and tea towels) – and a great little balcony with views out over the hills on the other side of the lake.
I would thoroughly recommend this apartment – it would certainly be our first choice when we're next back in the Lakes (and we've been coming to the Lakes for years).
