The Cumbria/Lake District region

The English Lake District is one of the most picturesque areas in the UK. Windermere is a busy little town at the end of a short single track railway line, which connects to Virgin West coast main line (London Euston - Oxenholme 3 hours). It boasts an 18 hole golf course, fabulous walks and views from the surrounding fells, as well as relaxing lake cruises on Windermere itself, the largest of the lakes. Whatever the weather is there always something for everyone.
The Windermere area
Dove Cottage Wordsworth's home during most of his creative period and the Wordsworth Museum are close by and whist in Grasmere why not visit the famous Gingerbread shop. Grizedale Forrest has walks and mountain bike trails to suit all levels plus an amazing 'GoApe' activity complex. Aquarium of the Lakes lies only a couple of miles further around the shores of Winderemere, Beatrix Potter World is in Bowness and Hill Top Farm where she created many of her children's stories is in nearby Hawkeshead. You can explore the views of Windermere from the lake itself with Lake Cruises, between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. Holker Hall & Gardens, a handsome neo-Elizabethan mansion , also home to Lakeland Motor Museum are only a short distance and offer magnificent views over Morecambe Bay. Other attractions include Leven Hall & Gardens, Ravenglass & Eskdale Steam Railway, South Lakes Wild Animal Park and Muncaster Castle to name just a few.
