Enquire nowThe Cumbria/Lake District region
The lakes, mountains and rivers provide the real beauty which draws visitors to the Lake District from all over the world.
The local countryside is very accessible and guests have their favourite time for visiting the National Park, often booking up to a year in advance to guarantee a particular week.
William Wordsworth (Daffodils), Beatrix Potter (Peter Rabbit), Arthur Ransome (Swallows and Amazons), Donald Campbell (water speed record), Alfred Wainwright (walker and author) and John Sutcliffe (Postman Pat) are among the many noted people associated with the area that inspired them. Some of their cottages and holiday homes are still open to tourists.
The Windermere area
The countryside has much to offer the visitor, whatever the season.
For the fit and energetic there are rowing, sailing, high fell walking, climbing, fishing, cycling, golf and horse riding.
However, much of the scenery can be appreciated from a car, bus, train, fishing boat or lake steamer.
There are many low level walks with spectacular views.
A boat service is available all year round on Lake Windermere.
The Beatrix Potter association is very personal for many visitors.

A modern, well furnished and well equipped apartment. It has good security with its own private parking space in a secure yard at the back. Though situated in a quiet and peaceful road, a lockable gate at the top of the back yard opens into a passageway into the main street, so the shops and local amenities are only two minutes away. A good base for visiting all the lakes. Buses, trains and Booth's supermarket (brilliant) are only a few minutes walk away. Highly recommended, but with just one warning - it is on the third floor and there is no lift, so six flights of stairs, especially with heavy cases or bags, are a challenge to those who are not as fit and agile as they used to be ! |
